be sensible people there's a difference between being a visible landmark in a racing game and being a level where players unload 500 cartridges on other humans, especially in NA where mass shootings are a regular thing Kaarme is right they must protect their IP, I can't remember when but I'm sure I read a company suing while offside saying we love that product but we can't allow them to use our image as it would create a detrimental in the long term precedent so "we have to" the game apparently has a good solo campaign so I might actually buy an fps again, last one was battlefield 1 even if you still play competitive fps (not sure why with cheats everywhere) you know full well you can't play with maximum graphical settings or it becomes "unreadable" solo campaign fps were the main reason to upgrade pc hardware back in the days, crysis 1 then 2 (with tesselation) then 3 all made their time hardware stuggle

I'm actually on their side on this: if my property or place of business was in a f'king CoD title, I would want it immediately removed. ... A Call of Duty game? Hell's no 'bro, hell's no.
Why exactly, though? Sure, perhaps you don't want your hotel associated with 13 years olds covered in Dorito dust but why is this game where you draw the line?

The name is not the only thing that can be used to identify a whole building. Maybe they can sue for damages for reputation and brand name. Or there might be some art unique to the building, or it's interior.
Well here's the thing: They're not complaining because of any of that. They're complaining because they're one of those people who thinks video games encourages violence. So basically, they had the stupidest possible reason to be upset over this.

But they are right. For example, Hitler and Stalin were big fans of videogames 😀

The owners of that house don't sue. They invade, especially if you have oil.

@anthos doesnt matter. past has shown changing the name is not enough to be legally fine. would you be if your face would be shown on house sized ads with the name "$hole" below it?! (you know, they changed the name..)
That's another terrible analogy but I 'll still answer your question. I'd laugh my ass off and take a selfie with it.

The disc version doesn't even contain the game.
There is a reason: we had the game around the 20 and the launch date was the 28... Same as FIFA 23 people were mad the week before launch... Both bad game surfing on a licence name that the team doesn't have made, and supported by horde of troll (unpolite, drama queen/king, that don't hesitate to stole the game of other people on the parking because store is sold out). positive point: it make fast and easy money So in conclusion: it's OK 🙂

The problem here is in 20 years someone buys a second hand copy of the game because for some reason they had a fun time playing it as a kid, excitedly they insert it into their "retro" console and ohh you can't play it the game isn't on the disc and the "live service" that used to provide the game no longer exists.... they will need to pay for a new live service starting at $200 a week and can only play the new remake of the remake of the remake of the remake that is only available on a console worth $5000....

that is not something i like, if i buy game on disc it better have game data on it. i really hope that isnt something that continues. most systems are permanently online now so just make so they cant launch till they send unlock code or what ever to system to allow it to launch. as for hotel free advertisement, they can always true sue them seeing that thing done these days. you cant do anything these days with some one get butt hurt bout something, if they could censor real life in real time they probably would

So they get free advertising in a game and they`re pissed off... what a world we live in.
They are just doing marketing, they don't really care if it's in the game. Get free advertising in-game and also on all these news sites. It's a great tactic.

Not sure why ppl have a problem seeing the difference between a made up place appearing to be something (in the real world), vs some lame company using "pictures" (local/sat/google whatever) of existing building/location that arent public places, without asking the owner, e.g. not giving someone a choice..

Most of us had probably never heard of the Conservatorium Hotel until reading this story. Yesterday it was just some location in a game, today it is advertising across numerous media outlets. It's great PR spin from the hotel and I bet you dollars to doughnuts bookings are being made as I type this reply.
That's a two sided coin situation really. The advertising however comes from a game that promotes war propaganda. So it's not really free, it's at the costs of many people being mislead about war. Of course you will never know if that's their intention or if they're just abusing the situation to make PR at the same time.

There is a difference. As I mentioned above, the game promotes war propaganda, while google maps doesn't.

Probably because you arent the main type of customer. This hotel has 7000 EUR/night stays and starts at 700 EUR/day. That's a luxury hotel and i dont think they care about being in a shooting game.

Because of the asset flip they did for basically 10 years, yet; charging AAA prices....the algorithms they placed in the CoD titles, wherein you would be placed in matches against people with items obtained from paid-DLC, with better stats, to promote teenagers to spend money in...the skill compression...the term "3-lane level design" being so utterly bad and simplistic, it became part of college required reading...the cone fire of the weapons being so utterly insane, it would turn even storm troopers into expert marksmen...the insistence of creating content so offensive (massacring an entire Airport) it would get headlines, purely, to get headlines to promote controversial discussions, just to get more money out of teenagers...copying the battle royale 'formulae' from the movie "battle royale", without ever addressing the point of the movie and the social conditioning the film presented to teenagers, whilst simultaneously conditioning teenagers playing computer games. I'm just getting started... Creating the WORST netcode known to the human race, yet because most teenagers do not care about the topic, they thought the reason they lost was down to the lack of paid-DLC weapons, and not the netcode...which the developers spent a lot of money on creating a 9,000,000 page document talking about the 'research' they had done on netcode, and how it is not the fault of the developers. Need I say more? I simply cannot think of a case in the history of computer games wherein a company LIED THROUGH THEIR F'KING TEETH FOR MONEY more than the developers and publishers of CoD during the early days of the internet. So yah, the reason above and for many, many more 'sir. Thanks for leading back down nightmare alleyway, which should have been memory lane, but Activision blocked off all traffic through there and demanded the entire contents of my wallet to walk down it... My GOD have mercy on their souls.

Video gaming can be healthy. "A recent study from the University of Toronto found that people who regularly play video games, particularly action titles like ‘Call of Duty’ or ‘Assassin’s Creed’, perform better in sensorimotor tasks and improve hand-eye coordination, than people who do not play video games. The results suggested that playing video games could be eventually become a treatment for people who struggle with hand-eye coordination or sensorimotor skills in general." Another interesting study from 2014 study found that adolescents who played more showed an increase in cortical thickness in left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex and the left frontal eye field, indicating greater density and more brain cell connections and thus improved brain function in those areas. The left frontal eye field is a part of the brain that plays a large role in processing visual-motor information, it is also involved with making judgments about how to react to external stimuli. It’s important in decision-making because it allows us to efficiently figure out what sort of reaction best suits what is happening around us. The term “hand-eye coordination” is literally derived from this brain process. The increase in thickness in this area strongly suggests that frequently playing these types of video games will greatly improve one’s hand-eye coordination. The left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is in a part of the brain that is responsible for higher order thinking, like decision-making and self-control. It is also key to processing complicated and intricate choices, particularly those that require a decision to be made in the short term, with effects that run into the long term. This is probably due to how action, racing and some sporting games constantly require the player to make decisions in the moment but while still being aware of how that decision will affect gameplay in the next few levels. The increased thickness in this area then suggests that video games also improve complex cognitive functions as well."

...paying researchers to conduct 'research' on video games, to trick parents into thinking CoD is good for them, and should be promoted. Thanks for reminding me about that one!

Completely 360° for me. I'd love it if the place I live in being a part of something like this. Gotta sale my room and move beyond arctic circle next year anyway.

Buildings cannot be used as a basis for a lawsuit. They are not protected under copyright laws and it has been adjudicated over and over in that regard. If you go that route your neighbor could sue you for building a house that looks like his. And again list their damages.
