I can't see it being a 480, more like an enhanced 460. Still great though, and if they can scale it down for laptops, I forsee a lot of design wins.
We can hope for 480 level performance if Vega improvements are as big as speculated.

Even if the GPU performance is at say 460 level, memory is going to be a limiting factor being ddr4 at dual channel.

They could, but if I am correct I thought AMD wanted uniformity, meaning only one desktop socket?

Doesn't the Vega memory manager mean that nothing stops you from having 1GB of HBM on board and then have your DDR4 as normal?

I would have to look at the Vega architecture, but I don't think 1gb of memory would last very long...Plus wouldn't that impose a cost as well?

1GB of extra fast cache. The Vega memory controller can connect to a lot of different types of memory at the same time.
