It looks like they are saying something like this. Not sure how to feel about that.

I don't think so, but they do have an AM4 version of the A-series processor. If you want the FX you can still buy AM3 motherboards, or maybe they are planning to release an AM4 version of the FX? I dunno.

AM4 socket for example supports the new chips but also the recent 7th Generation A-series chips. So no it wont support all FM2 only 7th gen A series APU's and not FX chips at all

AM3+ should be supported on AM4 afak. We'll see soon enough.

Lol is imposible that AM4 supports AM3+/FM2+ chips these does'nt has DDR4 Memory controller or other buses, but if says AMD will support FM2+/AM3+ chips providing chipset drivers, 7000 series APU will no move to AM4, Godavari is "Steamroller" based and Bristol Ridge will be "Excavator" based Off topic: would be great see Excavator with higher lv2 cache + lv3 cache for multithreaded apps

naw am4 isn't pin compatible ,

If AMD think they will still sell AM3 along with AM4 they are delusional. I also dont see the point with all that big new upcoming lineup.

I stand corrected, thanks!
If AMD think they will still sell AM3 along with AM4 they are delusional. ,
It all depends on the pricing. It has to cost less than the R3 chips to make sense.

I think Zen will be for high end market while the Fx and A-series will drop in price even more! You have to admit $89.99 for a 8-core cpu is a Great deal if they drop that price even more maybe they will gain additional market share? I like my 8-core Fx would buy again for sure!

There's no question that priced right, AM3+ cpus will sell very well--just like Intel sells dog-slow i3's at a much greater clip than it sells the much higher-priced i7's--that run rings around the i3's. Why people think there is no market for budget processors and mboards beats me. The market for them is huge. For instance, my current cpu, an FX-8320e, runs at 3.8GHz and boosts to 4.2GHz, most of the time. (Reason being is the Evo 212 air-cooler I recently installed--shows how crummy the stock AMD heatsink always was...;)) There is no game that doesn't run very well for me presently. But it's a great little cpu I paid $130 for a couple of years ago. What AMD should do, imo, is adapt the budget Ryzen chipsets to AM3 support so that vendors can use them in new AM3++ (to differ from AM3+ products) motherboards--that would be a big coup for them in the budget cpu marketplace--as they'd allow PCI3.x support, nVme, USB 3.1 support in AM3+ cpu-supporting motherboards. Imagine buying an AM3++ motherboard for $70 along with a $70 FX-8320e, or equivalent...! They'd still massacre the i3 products from Intel and at roughly the same budget prices and people could hang on to their DDR3 ram awhile longer, too. However, it could also be that the yields for Ryzen are terrific and maybe even better than the FX...and if so why then they'll want to replace the whole line. But if my current cpu is any guide I expect that FX yields themselves are very good. Will be interesting to see if AMD will do something more advanced than the 9xx-chipset for AM3+ currently. You could intelligently argue that budget products don't need PCI.3x support and that 2.x support is completely adequate--especially for new products with 4-8 GBs onboard locally--you'd want to use the much slower PCIe bus as seldom as possible as the onboard vram is *much* faster by far. I don't really know what will happen with the FX line, but it will be interesting to watch...!

Makes perfect sense to me. The last thing AMD wants to do is release a new line of products and totally forget their existing loyal customers who may not want/be able to buy Ryzen right away.

It's not like every computer buyer would even know exactly what's inside their PC. They just go to a (web) store and buy a pre-assembled machine according to their budget. They might listen to a salesperson and get whatever, even old components the store would be all too happy to get rid of. When the clerk tells it can run games and programs (and has an SSD, oh my god), it's enough knowledge for many. They don't know or care that the CPU is soon-to-be obsolete generation.

In my opinion this will work , selling FX and APU chips at a very low cost while they transition everything to AM4. I just gave my father my AMD APU A-3650 with 16Gb Ram and 250Gb SSD , for the kind of use that he will give to that PC is way more than enough power in it , ( Web browsing , youtube , netflix , hulu , facebook , watching videos , playing flash video games etc...).

The FX Series has now been relegated to the budget/mainstream market segment.

People who can't commit to a whole new platform will still need replacement, and that stock won't move itself. Better to sell it now while Ryzen production ramps up.

Yep , FX CPUs and APUs still bring a lot of performance for such little price , now they will be even lower priced until they completely sell all of that stock as they need to make some profit out of it before is end of life hardware.

Still can't wait to see Zen based APU's those are going to be killer. 4c/8t with a 480 equivalent GPU on board. That would be nice.

I can't see it being a 480, more like an enhanced 460. Still great though, and if they can scale it down for laptops, I forsee a lot of design wins.
