Excited for these. I'm going to hold off of getting the 5900x even though its price is almost dropping by the week. I was so tempted though. 😀

i expect a good price bump, i would preffer to wait the second AM5 generation, but waiting for something better can led you to never update your pc. We will see

Gonna try to wait for AM6 since I have a 5800X currently

This makes a lot of the newest 5000 series releases all the more confusing, because enthusiasts are likely going to deliberately not buy them in anticipation for the 7000 series, and anyone who doesn't care enough isn't going to understand why the 5800X3D costs so much more. So, these new 5000 series parts are basically just left for people who haven't yet upgraded and are on a budget (DDR5 is still really expensive). Sounds like a rather small market.

in my case I want a 5k chip so I can use resizable bar(if that ever becomes a thing) and to help my 3090 run at it's best over my 3700X. I'll probably just get a 5700x and call it a day. I don't really feel the X3D thing will be worth the cost difference.

It probably is a small market. However they want to get those who don't need to upgrade to upgrade on existing AM4 motherboards. So the new options and lower pricing might entice a few more sales between now and when Zen4 lands. Its is likely very easy and cheap for AMD to bin and sell these new parts. Seems smart to me.

Unless there is a drastic uplift in performance, the old adage of upgrading your CPU every 5 years (if you mostly game, obviously) will likely hold true. I'm tempted, but only if the upgrade pays for itself. Otherwise, I'll stick to my usual three-year cycle.

Can't wait to see benchmarks.

I mean, you can probably do it, but that'll be a good 6+ years out. DDR6 hasn't even been formally introduced yet.

If you're willing to wait 5 or 6 years between upgrades, you probably should have gone with the 12 core or 16 core variant. I suspect that 8 core isn't going to age well considering current gen consoles basically have 8 core zen2 chips but are far more efficient at using them.

It's great to see AMD and Intel fighting hard for the performance crown.

the 8-core in consoles is crap by today's desktop standards, and 12/16 cores contribute very little to gaming
https://tpucdn.com/review/intel-core-i5-12600/images/relative-performance-games-2560-1440.png
better to get a six core zen4 than 5900x

love how ppl always talk about "small market", ignoring we're close to hitting 8B for the whole planet. even if its just 1000 of em, its more than selling zero... unless someone really miscalculated, companies usually dont do stuff unless it benefits the bottom line.

The 5800X3D makes sense as it is likely a test platform to prove out the new tech ahead of Zen4. By putting it out as a limited release they can get feedback and plan fixes on problems and compatibility, rather than learn the hard way on a mass new product.

Yeah, I considered this, but then I realized the 7000 series is already in production so whatever they would learn is now too late, except maybe through firmware updates.

Wait, what didcha say? I'd thought Resizable Bar is doable with Zen 2, I mean I had it enabled on my X570 + 3900X a while back before I'd had to downgrade my BIOS to F30 (which had no Resizable Bar support) due to some issues I was experiencing.

oh it appears you're right. Well I could have swore it was only good for Zen 3. You learn something new every day. Just updated my cards bios and updated my mobo and got it running. I still want a 5700X because my 3700X has a bit of a defect with installing windows 98 in a VM environment and it was never fixed with a BIOS update like it was supposedly supposed to. Plus I want to let my 3090 stretch it's legs a bit more
