Yeah and 2gb vram is enough at 4k too.
Yea sure . 512 also.

Nice. But i still think AMD priced the new CPUs a little higher than they should but i´m hopeful they will correct the pricing "issue" with the non XT parts later.

Your point being? You game at 2k-4k with 8-10GB just fine and will probably be like this till next generation. Might have an impact in the future (read when 3080 will be obsolete) if they start improving textures by a big margin which I doubt since most will be console ports. My point was the fps gain at 2k and 4k, where any cpu from this and next year will bring a very small improvement, not worth the price tag vs a new video card. So 700€ for a cpu that brings 5% more gaming performance? 12 cores? for what ... cinebench? Feck that.
That is 100% correct, just look at most CPU demanding games rights now , just push 4k and you are good with quad core on RTX 3080. Saying like 6c/12 5600x will be too slow in 2-3 years is madness ,it is not going to happen . I know guys with 8-12 cores (bought for gaming) they want them useful , but they are not , and they won't be this generation. Unless games go in to some different direction and developers find use for that cpu power we have right now.

I game in 4K and with Ryzen 3600 GPU Usage is in a lot of games under 99%.

6/12 might fall short in 2-3 years if consoles push the cpu usage to 8 cores. Im torn between the 5800 and the 5900... Reviews cant come soon enough.
I agree - although I think 6c/12t will probably be enough, I'm sure there are going to be some cases where it might struggle if you don't have an all-core overclock. I'm feeling very confident 8c/16t is all gamers will need in the foreseeable future. Anyone who likes to multitask or do streaming might want to opt for 10c/20t. For me, I'm mostly wondering if I should just wait for AM5. There's a very good chance my current motherboard isn't compatible, meaning I'd basically have to upgrade both CPU and mobo, and since my current CPU still works, I might as well get new RAM too. I might as well go for AM5 if I'm going to replace everything.
data/avatar/default/avatar01.webp
How far AM5 off though? pretty sure Zen3+ refresh will come next year on 5nm?

If a 5600X didn't beat a 10600K, I'd be very disappointed in AMD.

Im coming from a 5820k, his golden days are long gone lol 8/16 is the "sweet spot" but it is more than 50€ above the price it should be (i thik), so...100€ more for the 5900x does sound "cheap". well see...

5600x better beat 10600k with fast memory, if not it sux 🙂

i am planning to snatch a 5xxx ryzen not sure witch one yet ... and i might wait till easter , honestly because ddr5 comming i want to get on the 5xxx series would get 32 gb for dirt cheap down the line ddr3 prices where almost nothing on second hand for long time and the first year or two ddr5 price will be threw the sky ... my personal plan is get now a 5600~5700 ((if it comes out )) and wait out 3-4 years till ddr5 is cheap then i will decide if i want to update to zen 8xxx or 9xxx or intel 15xxx ~16xxx or snatch for dirt cheap a 5900x or 5950x on the used market :P

You and me brother, we're on the same boat. With a good overclock around 4.55/4.6Ghz on all cores you're performing around retail i7-8700K, which is fine for current high end gaming but as far as heavy workload is concerned this is completely outclassed by anything at 3600X level of performance and beyond. I'm exactly in the same situation as yours pondering between 5800X and 5900X. Going from 6 cores to 12 would trigger some happy brain cells for sure.

Yep, i'm currently on a 4 core cpu and don't want a 5600 to just get 6 cores. It's the 5800 for sure and perhaps the 5900. I plan to keep it another 7 years like my current system.

AMD is better, but most software, multiplayer games will run snappier, faster on intel. Because its made on intel. AMD? Only to speculate about badly optimised console ports running better on AMD because '" PS5 is AMD, yada, yada". Too much hype.
Such a troll .

He's not exactly wrong in a lot of ways.... For example look at the boot times and restart times of an Intel CA ryzen build. Look at all the work needed to get memory properly working and at its best with ryzen. Then look at even if they 5600x is faster than a 10600k that's at stock can a 5600x overclock like a 10600k (which can EASILY hit 10900k levels of performance). There is almost always an over abundance of hype around and with anything they do because people have bought into that hype train HARD...history tells a different story than what the hype would always try to get you to believe. What I'm saying is I'll believe it when I see it. I want amd to be better but I won't just put on my rose tinted glasses and agree it's better just to make sure I wasn't wrong with my speculation. I've been saying it for 3 years now that I'm 100% ready to make the jump to ryzen the minute they are the undisputed king of gaming performance. They've yet to do that (though I can't tell you how many times their hype train has tried to convince they had done it "this time") but if and when they do I'm absolutely down to come on board. I know everyone wants to convince themselves that once again they done it finally (once again) but undisputed king includes your overclocking ability. To ignore it when Intel has so much and amd has so little is to just show your bias. Anyone on this cutting edge would be silly spending so much and NOT taking advantage of this extra performance. Give me a chip that beats a 5.2 - 5.3ghz all core oc on a 10900k and we got something but until then they chip being paired with the fastest Gaming pc setups WILL have to include Intel to not be leaving performance on the table.

And for a gaming system a 5600X might be well enough for Very High End Gaming rig. If i could keep my B450 AORUS Pro the upgrade will be pretty massive compared to my 2600X. From a CPU-Z single score of 484 for the 2600X to well over 600 for the 5600X. All i need then is a 3070TI or One of Big Navi GPUs and that's me set for a good 4 years. I honestly don't see the other CPUs on Zen 3 pushing that much more FPS than the 5600X. The 5800X will only offer a frame or two difference.
I would advise against any of the newer CPUs 3000 and on with a 400 series Gigabyte Board especially the X variants Wife had a x470 Aorus ultra with a 2700x it was great saw a cheap deal on a 3900x and upgraded,.but it did not play well with a 3900x temps were all over the place and it was constantly being over volted was running hot( idles at 50 on custom loop) fans were going insane, and would black screen regularly under load, new PSU made no diff so Today I got a MSI Unify set Ryzen master to auto clock and its going up to 4750 idles at 33 seems the 500 series boards really do make a difference but then again lots of folks complain the gigabytes are not up to the job, the cpu plate was remounted several times to see if it was perhaps a mount issue as well . Expensive upgrade after all that PSU £240, Mobo £264.00 and the CPU£380 ohh and £32gb 3600 Ram! These were eventually going to be changed anyway as she normally gets my cast offs (looks furtively over shoulder as he types) but dammit she has all the new toys now!

If true this is no too surprising to me because AMD is really making a huge push. At some point down the road I may upgrade to whatever 12c/24T AM4 chip that AMD has whether it be the 3900X or the 5900X. Even with slightly older titles 6c/12t is more than enough for most people. Granted if you are livestreaming or doing video editing then you may need more cores than 6. Also another thing about the 5800X that is new vs the 3700X is that AMD is not offering a cooler this time around which means new customers who had Intel prior or an AM3+ AMD CPU (if their cooler is not compatible) will have to purchase a CPU cooler along with it who want a 5800x. Granted the 3900x/5900x did the same thing. So in my mind this makes the 5600x a bit more enticing for new customers who don't want to get an aftermarket CPU cooler right away.
Matt26LFC:

To be honest, the 5900X costing just 25% more than a 5800X and having 50% more cores makes the 5900X more of a no brainer to me. 8 core is a weird one considering it costs way more than the 6 core but not much less than the 12 core
I agree that the 8core Zen3 is very odd in terms of price and bang for the buck. I remember with Zen2's launch that quite a few tech YouTubers said to avoid the 3700X and they would recommend the 3600 instead because of value for performance. Now fast forward to lateral part of the Zen2's life cycle that a few tech YouTubers are now recommending the 3700X now. Now with Zen3 I have seen several Tech YouTubers' videos on Zen3 and they are recommending the 5600X or the 5900x over the 5800X. Maybe if AMD made the 5800X a 10c/20t Chip then it might be worth the money but then again there is the 5900X.

The 5800x will be quite a bit better for gaming though, due to being a single ccx, rather than 2 ccx's as in the 5900x. Aka the 5800x is not a chiplet, thus has much less latency.

They sold the 5900x as the "best" and i dont think they lied, would be dumb to lie about it with reviews coming with the release. 5900x has 2 ccx/ccd BUT 6 cores in each with more cache per core and better binned. If the game stays on the same ccx/ccd and not jumping from the first to the second the 5900x will be faster and, even if the game uses more than 12 threads, we dont know how good is the latency on zen3. Wont know for sure untill reviews.

i don't know games using more than 16 threads 😱 If i'm upgrading a good part of it would be faster compiling of large projects anyway (unreal engine 4 mainly)
