Yeah it's so weird. It's almost like they are selling the 580 to people who own older cards. Terrible marketing.
People with older cards could also be considering the 1060, or the 1070, or the Fury for example. The graphs would look much better showing the 580 beating the 1060 at the same price and offering better bang for buck compared to say the 1070.

from pricing stand point it nice it what 200$? less then what 970gtx was 2 years ago, but from performance stand point its comparing to 2 year old card, then again there probably not comparing to current gen cards cause the gap difference there is. did AMD give up trying in GPU side things too? and set off to make cheaper cards that equivalent lil better then cards from 2 generations ago from nvidia?

Great 1080p cards for the price.

Getting 90-100 fps on my GTX 970 at 1080p in ultra quality in DOOM 4. How's that they have 50? That's pretty mean false marketing. Shows how poor situation with AMD's graphics is.

Benchmark was done in 1440p if you bother to take a look. Also, you dont even have enough Vram to run Doom in that resolution using nightmare settings.

yet there comparing it to 2 year old 970 gtx
From a marketing point of view, that's quite a shambolic move. Not to mention that the 970 was a mid range card when it released. Weird that AMD chose to go "look, we're faster than the 2 year old mid range gpu from the green team". It's just weird, but very AMD like. Their marketing team is just OMG. Then again, a 580 at higher clock speeds and good price will be a good choice for so many gamers. It's just the PR that let AMD down more than anything else they do.
The 970 is the card its competing with. 🙂

which is confusing in it self 970gtx is a 2 year old card and 1060gtx is faster then 970gts and cost less then 970gtx. the 1060gtx is similarly priced if the 580 same price as the 480, it would make more sense to compare it to something newer, comparing it to some 2 years old is like say "hey we finally surpassed 2 year old tech" I dont get it, what kind of message is AMD trying to send?

which a 2 year old card 1060gtx runs faster then 970gts and cost less then 970gts did too and is similarly priced the 580 if we going by what 480 went for, it would make more sense to compare it to something newer, comparing it to some 2 years old is like say "hey we finally surpassed 2 year old tech"
It's about target group & market reach. If you have a 15% user group using 970 / 960 / 750Ti leading the board: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/ Then you want to address them, and not the people who JUST this year bought their new RX480 or 1060... those either won't upgrade now anyway... or if they really are interested... they are first of all a smaller group. And secondly they are more in for a sidegrade than anything else.

again point is there comparing it to 2 YEAR OLD TECH that COST alot more then 5xx does for very lil gain last i check a 970gtx was 400$ card 2 gens ago 480 is a 280$ card which stand to reason the 580 will be same prices, Comparing 2 year old 400$ card to 280$ card of current gen and claiming 20 fps is nothing in term of GPU power, considering how much gpu power advances compared to cpu Why are they NOT comparing to current gen of same price.

Name me ~2-3 cards they should compare it to in your opinion, and I tell you why they don't do it.

1060 and 1070 from Nvidia. Are you genuinly telling me that if you ran AMD you would have the 970 in those charts? They should put it up against the 1060, that is their competition. Choose a DX12 game or two where AMD do well and go for it. 580 would beat the 1060 in Ashes for example and be fairly close to the 1070. Beating the similarly priced 1060 and getting close to the more expensive 1070 would be much better than showing off beating a 970. This is what they should have done. Not put it up against a 2 year old mid range card.

it should be compared to 1060gtx... seeing it same price range and same gen plain and simple. not sure why I even replying to vase cause I have him on ignore for reason, along with few others on these forums.

So why would anyone with a 1060 or 1070 want to upgrade to a RX580??? Where is the logic in your proposal? If you bought a 1060 and want to get a 580 after maximum the amount of time the 1060 is out (up to one year)... then you made a mistake anyway by not taking the RX480 in first place instead. And the 1070 is a higher tier than the 580 and also costs more, so why compare it to that, nobody will down-/sidegrade from the 1070, even if 580 could match it in certain DX12 titles. They compare it to the user base for that it makes sense. It's pretty simple. Why so much effort in trying to critizise an obvious marketing decision? The number of 970 owners is large enough to concentrate advertising a card that easily brings 60 FPS in 1440p including a solid and proven DX12 performance.

Yeah i am not sure why you do that. But tell me more about your ignore list on these forums and why you ignore your ignore list. 🤓 "Upgrading" from the GTX 1060 is like admitting to actually having bought the wrong card by not buying 480... Yes 580 is better than 1060 but 480 was already better... and since 480 and 580 are the same chip... -> simple...

Yup. Anno 2017 GPU needs to have support for ZERO RPM fan speed out of the box. My ACIV is dead silent, but zero RPM, zero moving parts is even more preferable.

Who said anything about upgrading from 1060 to 580? Apart from you, nobody, of course. the 1060 and 580 compete in the same market. They're competitors, nobody will upgrade from one to the other. People with slower gpus will consider both though, as their mid range upgrade. I can't put it to you any crisper than that.

That's why it doesn't make sense for AMD to compare them to advertise the card. Reviewers will put out those numbers anyway later on when it's released. What AMD obviously does here is give a hint to 380 / 970 / 750Ti users that a cost efficient upgrade is available for them with the RX580. It doesn't make sense for AMD to compare cards in a marketing campaign that perform almost the same, generally speaking. Because that's what we know anyway.. And what would the people with a 1060 or 480 learn of it? Oh wow a card that performs almost the same as my current card. ??? Doesn't get any crisper than that.

Yup, AMD are providing people with upgrade paths from particulars hardware choices - I know a lot of people who are still running 78x0/79x0/380 or 750ti/760/770/960/970 cards - AMD are just targetting that group of gpu owners by giving them a valid upgrade path (although, for the 970, it's only valid if you're gaming above 1080p and/or hitting the vram limit but having said that, it is surprising to see how the 970 is falling behind so fast as newer games come out).

Considering the 1060 performs pretty much the same as the 480/580, AMD providing slides with their product performing the same as 1060 card for almost the same prices is like them saying - "here guys, you can pick this card or that card, our card is slightly cheaper but performs just the same, it's up to you, wont you choose our card? Maybe?" AMD are just providing definitive numbers for owners of previous generation cards, that's all there is to it.

There are about three or four users on here that will defend any AMD decision without fail. You are currently debating with one of them.

Looks like I'm in the same boat.
