Hold the ****ing phone! Are they seriously comparing this "new" GPU to the 290 and 970 in their slides? Okay who the **** is making these decisions? They need to be fired right now.

The 970 is the most owned card on Steam, why shouldn't it be there?

580 not quite there for me to drop my money ... but these are MASS market GPUs based on price point for retailers where the bulk of their sell through will be. Enthusiasts really want 1070 and onward performance and those are what... 5% of the market? 980/980 Ti, 390/390x and onwards...

Idk, they are comparing it to products that people would upgrade from. Realistically no one that owns a 480 or 1060 is going to buy this because it's a rebrand. If it wasn't a rebrand, yeah it would be strange - but because it is, seems fine because technically 290/970 are the previous gen products.

Am i missing something?.... or maybe im really realyl blind but the graphs show the 380x (i know is a rebrand of the 200 series) but is it really the 380x THE SAME EXACTLY as the 290?

No you are right it is the 380x picture is blurry and I was viewing it on a phone. Still you are comparing it to almost 3 year old GPU's instead of your direct competition.

So for more impact they should compare this "new" GPU to the 670 and 7970 next those graphs would look amazing.

They're comparing it to the 380 and the 970. Because for those cards (and lower ofc) it is a valid upgrade path. If you own a 480 for example you just need to increase your clock by some 50Mhz and you basically have a 580. With proper fan-curve setup RX480 OCs to ~1400 without hassle. So you are in the 1257 base / 1340 boost region of the 580 easily. R270(x)->R370(x) R280(x)->R380(x) R290(x)->R390(x) these are all not really viable upgrade paths so why should RX 480 -> RX 580 be? (especially since it even stays a Polaris chip, while 380 -> 480 is an arch upgrade within the generational upgrade) R270 -> R280/R290 ... viable R270 -> R470 ... viable first digit + 1 upgrade is only a generational upgrade if second digit (performance iteration) stays the same then it is not really viable. jumping +2 gens is viable again. it is clear that 5xx are simply higher clocked (maybe especially binned) prev.-gen chips http://i.imgur.com/yKyTTRh.png

I hoped for a bit more but lets wait for all the specifications and reviews.

Price wise competition?....480 4gb are as cheap as 1050ti

New AMD slides, yay!

I wonder what they mean by enhanced multi-monitor efficiency. Simply better low usage power consumption?

Thought the vega gpu had hbm2 equipped, something changed here? I thought that was the main reason for the delay. Why did they went back to gddr5??? Can't make the demands on time of release??? This is mid range vega right? The rx580? Hopefully the top dog vega will have hbm2. UPDATE: NM, there is Vega 10 and Vega 11, Originally though the rx580 was vega, I knew something was wrong here, lol.

^ No these aren't Vega, these are their last years Polaris again, they are just re-releasing them.

From the article:
Radeon RX 580 gets an increase boost frequency and is using a familiar looking Polaris GPU with the same CU and shader processors counts.

Sorry about that, originally thought rx580 was vega, then I remembered seeing vega 10 and vega 11 once before. Anyways, when you all think this card will be released? both vega 10 and 11? summer time? Defin't going to wait how vega performs, hopefully by or before then, evga 1080ti hybrids will be on sale. Going to be very interesting going up against 1080ti, I am also hoping that all vega gpu's can be overclocked, If it can, this will get even more interesting.

Vega is supposedly by end of June.

So the top dog vega varient soon after right? Probably going to do a massive showcase around the time of computex in Taipei in June.

From a marketing point of view, that's quite a shambolic move. Not to mention that the 970 was a mid range card when it released. Weird that AMD chose to go "look, we're faster than the 2 year old mid range gpu from the green team". It's just weird, but very AMD like. Their marketing team is just OMG. Then again, a 580 at higher clock speeds and good price will be a good choice for so many gamers. It's just the PR that let AMD down more than anything else they do.

Yeah it's so weird. It's almost like they are selling the 580 to people who own older cards. Terrible marketing.
