They're just seeing if there is a potential buyer for the Radeon group after the "shift" is done. Once they get the restructuring done it'll be easier to sell off the Radeon/Ati group.

I would argue the opposite. The 300 series is an overpriced re-brand imo, why go to the effort of rebranding only to cannibalise existing 200 series sales for a few months before the Fury? In my mind it looks like a cash grab and a staging point for setting up the MSRP of the Fury cards which, imo, are also overpriced. Sure, I love the new technology and all but that's not what sells graphics cards; price vs performance is king, always has been and always will be. The only time new tech sells more cards is when there are significant real-world benefits. Pricing the FuryX the same as a 980ti was a mistake, especially given the (lack of) overclocking ability. Pricing the 300 series so far above the 200 series was a HUGE mistake given that they are basically the same hardware. And that's the problem with trying to market to enthusiasts; enthusiasts aren't stupid and actually understand the hardware they're buying. Marketing tricks don't work, the hardware needs to sell itself at a fair price point. I think all this overpricing has been perceived as something of an insult which is why there aren't really any AMD fanboys left - even they know when they're being taken for a ride. AMD cards are monsters when it comes to GPGPU applications, why has this not been capitalised on? A missed opportunity perhaps.
You have a good point, but considering that AMD is not doing so well lately I decided to give this whole rebranding mess a pass. Although cutting down Fiji isn't that expensive.. The yields are not that good as I've understood it. Your cash grab theory sounds more reasonable now that I think about it, maybe they weren't sure how many cards they would be able to produce. I also agree that Fury X is overpriced. Come on, the reference 980Ti outperforms it, custom 980Tis dance around it. Who in their right mind would buy an FX over a Ti? Regarding enthusiasts, that's exactly what pisses me off about AMD. I (we) am (are) not affected because we can easily see through that kind of bullsh!t. But the average Joe sees all the goddamn hype and thinks 'hell yeah that's my card!'. Little does average Joe know, the reality is different.

Naah I doubt it. Not the sellout, but what they would be selling. Their CPUs are a huge hole in their budget, they just don't sell. On the GPU side of things they're actually profitable. Basically their GPU business keeps them afloat while their CPU business is making them sink. If they sell their GPU business they are unequivocally dead. Unless they use that money to make excellent CPUs which is a huuuge IF.

They should call it something clever...something original...perhaps ATI? 🤓

http://anandtech.com/show/9612/amd-reorganizes-graphics-division-radeon-whole-once-more-led-by-raja-koduri Hopefully this will be good for AMD's graphics division. I bolded a part I thought was important, especially considering recent rumors over the past year that they would be splitting/selling divisions. Companies usually do this kind of reorgs before selling some businesses.

I have had a lovely weekend with my new Tri-X Fury. Absolutely impressed! Also bought a ASUS MG27+ 1440, Freesync IPS again just lovely. I hope this means we will see better driver releases again(I so miss the once a month system now)Hopefully they will be smarter with Arctic Islands release and properly compete with NV again.
