Can a discrete GPU and APU be used in a multi-gpu configuration? If so, a Ryzen 1700 class APU would be pretty inviting.

I don't think it's physically possible to fit that many transistors on an AM4 die and have it still functional. I'm pretty sure a 4c/8t APU is the highest we're going to see for a while, not like gamers would really need more than that for a while anyway. Most games that take advantage of more than 8 threads are still very playable on 8-threaded CPUs.

It just depends on what architecture the APU is going to use. GCN could, and even some higher series that were not listed as supported did as well.

Depending on the gpu revision on the APU it could support crossfire i had crossfire on my 5800k with the hd 6670 and it wasnt bad but the frame pacing was terrible and ultimately led me to just run the APU on its own. That may have changed now but i never bothered to try.
