Not sure why people here are so into the Titan GPUs. The first Titan was disappointing for the price, was a jack of all trades, and a master of very little. It was basically just a watered-down Quadro with a GeForce logo slapped on. That isn't to say the GPU was bad, but considering nvidia had better offerings for a better price really showed how dumb it was. If anybody is going to expect competition against AMD, it will be the 980Ti. The Titan GPUs are nothing more than a "hey check out how rich I am" statement. Another thing to consider: suppose the Titan 2 happens to be better than the 980Ti - it will likely cost at LEAST twice the amount of an r9 390X and will only be marginally better.
980 is a full gm204 where is the ti coming from?

Im thinking the 980Ti in reality is dual gpu card like the 690 but a maxwell version so a 990 rather than a 980ti. But its is based off of the next architecture after gm204. But that is just a guess/theory.

If I had to guess I'd think that this card is closer to launch then most people think.
You are telling me what I want to hear so I will believe you.

Oh, it'll be fine for a good long while! I just a slight obsession with not buying other than the current generation of things. It's neither healthy nor gains me anything. But I like high numbers. πŸ™‚
Yeah, the 285 was appealing because it does have a few extra hardware features that none of the other AMD products, including the 290, possess. I figure this GPU will last me through the lifespan of the current console generation and if it doesn't I'll just buy a 2nd one. I still would have rather gone with a 4GB 285 though, due to the better power and memory efficiency. Even if there were a 3GB model, that would have been good enough for me since I only have 1 1080p screen. @---TK--- The Titan 2 doesn't exist yet and neither does the 980Ti. I'm just saying, if history repeats itself, the 980Ti will probably be faster, and maybe cheaper too.

It probably will be faster, thing is it will come much later than the titan with less memory which means wont last as long before upgrade time. There has to be a vram cap soon, 4k and dsr just raises the cap until ps5. The original titan has out lasted many cards because of its main strength.....6gb of VRAM. Also in the right hands a titan under water with volt mod will hit 1400mhz or more. I dont rate the titan on air though, never have.

Again the 980 is a full gm204 there is nothing on it to make it a 980 ti.

To be fair Nvidia could just take GM210 and name it a 980Ti. It's not like they haven't done weirder naming bull**** in the past. But yeah I get what you mean. They'll probably do a 20nm refresh as 1080 (SNOWBOARDIN) or whatever their next series name is on 210 -- similar to 7xx series.

290X: Loud, warm, eat a lot. 390X: More loud, more warm and more eating. No thanks. Waiting for Titan 2...
This. The 290/290X is a monstrously loud, power-gorging card with a low number of features & dumps obscene amounts of heat into the room/office it's in... god help you if you want to run two cards on air together with those.
I don't get where these people get this stereotype that AMD cards run always warmer than nVidia. Just because the T-junction temp is higher doesn't mean it is warmer on full load. The stereotype may have been true in 2011 with 6k/7k series but not anymore.
It has nothing to do with that, they just outright run hot/loud/absolutely gobble up power, and thus also dump warm-rooming amounts of heat out. Add in poor drivers lacking features like DSR, PhysX, Shadowplay, and other niceties, and the package AMD offers is pretty barebones nowadays even if their hardware were up to par (which it isn't).

GM200 already was sent around and validated just as GM204 was, months ago πŸ˜‰. We started seeing the first GM200 test boards going through databases about two months after the GM204 ones, and we now have GM204 ones in our hands. Guess what's next? πŸ™„
I dont care too much about heat ,that can be sorted out with water cooling and case modding or aftermarket cooling solutions , all i want is pure power at a good price, i've been with Nvidia since my 5970s and wouldn't mind giving AMD ago again , so fingers crossed that these cards will blow the green team out of the water when it comes to price and performance I bet for the price of a titan 2 i could go tri crossfire and still have money in my pocket. I wonder if they will be here late 2014-early 2015.
Sorry to break it to you but adding on aftermarket water cooling (with its own problems, too) is hardly a way to get the power at "a good price". You're contradicting yourself. /fires up AC Unity with 970 SLI oc'd to the moon and DSR'd 3620x2036 (physical 1440p) monitor @ 100hz right now. Have fun drooling over spec sheets.

I was referring to a cut down titan 2 ie 1080 and 1080ti maybe. Maxwell is so different to keplar they can get so much power with so less regarding pcb layout and features. I think there are going to be more varients of Maxwell than any other card to date. Maxwell milking is gonna be much more than keplar. NVIDIA mat not follow the traditional path regarding tick tock gpu. I think it will be very different this time around.

Wasn`t really directed at you as you already know a 980 is a full gm204.

here is that benchmark http://i.imgur.com/O3Oebkj.jpg Vs nvidia GM200 Titan2 or 980ti,.. with 52 - 55gb/s @28nm according to sisoftsandra leak btw it apparently does use 3dmemory, 512gb/s total bandwidth, each 1gb stack has 128gb/s x4.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/202/202673.jpg
Yeah noticed that too...interesting, huh?
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/242/242471.jpg
Should be a lot faster with MSAA, no doubt. Also looks like a serious GM200 threat., more then 290x was to GK110.

Really? The 900 series cards make my 780 look like a power gorging beast too <_<.

Really? Who buys high end hardware to play games on an office.

Wrong again, while is true that the GTX 980 uses less power, all you are preaching here are nVidia PR marketing stuff. DSR is just standard super sampling, PhysX is dead, Shadowplay only is good for the Shield consoles which nobody has (Look at their terrible sales numbers). Both offers very polished drivers as I have both GPU vendors.

None of that made sense.

Sadly for you, the R9 290X CF ties with the GTX 980 SLI at 4K and the GTX 970 SLI is behind the GTX 980 SLI even if overclocked. No amount of realistic overclocking can't make it up with the huge deficit of CUDA cores.

So pathetic.. Always these NVidia fan boys trying to change people opinions when they them self's have never owned a Ati/AMD card. I own both and always will.. Quit trying to change people minds and get a life.. It's funny how to only time for once that an AMD is not more power efficient these NV trolls don't waste time to point it out.. NVidia has always said if you want a top of the line videocard you pay for it with power usage.. I'm guessing there are so many noobs on here that don't even know the history of ati/NVidia form the 90s. like it or not this 390x is going to kill the gtx 980 and it will be competition for the titan 2 or if not beat it... 390x memory bandwidth is going to be a lot higher than the titan 2 because of stacked ram.
