It will be interesting to see what kind of cooler they send with it.. It will most likly be a H90 equivalent.
They're not AMD. =b
But it is said that thats the main problem with IB and haswell is they are HOT.. Now anyone with one of them saying the FX series is way to hot is saying hello pot hello kettle..
Well, let's try to put things into perspective here. FX series is being hot(ter?) without any significant advantage over IB or Haswell. That's the main beef with most of the BD/PD naysayers. Back then the top-end BD, on average, couldn't even surpass the performance of the cheaper SB (2500K) unless in some very specific cases most people don't even touch, or OC it 'til Hell having a winter from transferring all its heat into it (and even that didn't really help in terms of beating 2700K). What John Fruehe did didn't help either, and he had silently resigned from AMD not too long after BD was released after all the things he spouted didn't really match anything in terms of real world performance. Even the i7-920 was a scorcher when OC'd, but it did have the performance advantage over everything else at the time. All being said, though, current FX series isn't all that bad. It does perform respectably, it's just most people were miffed that it's not AMD's next K8, and that for the amount of heat being added for the OC, it doesn't really give them the additional performance that's to be expected. And that the top-end BD couldn't really beat the 2700K which had been released for quite some time were an additional punch in the gut. It's no secret Haswell is hotter than IB though, which is already hotter than SB, but that's only noticeable when you OC it and on load. And as you said it yourself, most people don't really fully load it 24/7 (well, unless you're folding, that is). Right, back on topic, though. AMD really should have something new fast, because Intel is starting to try to eat AMD's APU advantage from the looks of this review. Sure, the price is still high, but once the tech is set, it will trickle down to cheaper SKUs in the future; just look at Nvidia's GTX 7xx line.

Bear in mind that intel's Haswell chips are at least twice the price of an "equivalent" APU.

I think your thinking of the 3770k and 4770k Myn is oced to 5ghz at 1.5v and it dont get over 70c.. Doesnt a 4770k hit 70c just idling at 4.7ghz :P
You do know that when you FX reports X temperature, it does not mean that it's running at that temperature? In other words, you can't compare Intel and AMD temperatures.

So, when is Kaveri launching? I'm looking at a Richland A4-4000 right now for my HTPC.

Thats only for baseline temps, load temps are way more accurate. I have used a thermal temp wire ontop of the cpu and its within ~3c for load and ~6idle. unless thats off too. but ya that is one problem i hope they do address with the steamroller chips.

Exactly why I mentioned "the price is still high". But the fact is Intel had nothing worth mentioning before Iris Pro. Even the newest HD4000 doesn't really do much. Once the tech (Crystalwell) has matured enough, it is not impossible it would become the standard on future SKUs, or in the next tock. If they can slip a bit of the Crystalwell tech into HD5000 or whatever, AMD really has to start worrying much. Their HUMA implementation has better be done properly and working as expected; they can't do another BD. To be honest, the one's holding back the graphics performance of their APUs is the CPU; they need to do something about it.
