So, it would seem that AMD has managed to push three of it's existing processors a bit further. What to do, what to do. Selling them at the same price that the original products were launched with doesn't seem to be gaining too much traction within this thread. Now, wavetrex believes that prices of these three CPU's are anywhere between $50 to $100 too high. If I'm not mistaken, wavetrex's proposed revision to the 3800XT would undercut what the vanilla 3800X is currently selling for in North America by about $30USD, give or take. Perhaps what AMD should have done instead, was quietly ease these "XT" SKUs into the marketplace using the existing "X" branding. For example, instead of the 3800X's OPN code of, 100-100000025BOX, suddenly there would be the 3800XT's OPN code of, 100-100000279WOF slipped into the pipeline, here and there. No other packaging differences would be evident. After a bit, perhaps people would notice a bit more headroom with the replacement's boost clock frequency. Word would spread. Rumors would start to circulate. Steve Burke could do one of his number-heavy deep-dives. Perhaps a legend would be born. "Nah, you don't want the 025, Louie. You want the 279! Yeah, I know the '79 is scarce. Look, I know a guy, who knows a guy..." Maybe, much like the 1600AF, the price on this mysterious "279" SKU would start to inflate up to something not too far from what AMD had in mind to begin with. Perhaps, then, everyone could just be happy, and not nit-pick. Especially those who were never planning to buy the "XT" in the first place. But, of course, there will be someone who purchased the original 3800X and would now bitterly complain that AMD improved this processor with an update, and then knowingly, deliberately, and with malice aforethought, hid this information from the general public. He or she was duped, and has suffered intense mental anguish as a result, and is now prepared to sue. Lesson: You're damned if you do, and damned if you don't, and no good deed goes unpunished. Just keep your improvements, AMD. I mean, really, what were you thinking? Class dismissed. (There will not be a test.)

3700X ( 4400 Mhz ) https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-7-3700x/p/N82E16819113567 - $274.49 3800X (+100Mhz, or +2% perf only in single thread, for +19% $ https://www.newegg.com/amd-ryzen-7-3800x/p/N82E16819113104 - $328.99 3800XT (+200Mhz, or +4% perf o.i.s.t., for +21% $ ) / (+300Mhz vs 3700X, or +7% perf o.i.s.t., for +45% $) (no offer yet, for obvious reasons) ~$399 - Same 8 cores, 16 threads - Same overclocking abilities - Same boxed cooler... oh wait, no the MOST EXPENSIVE of these offers doesn't even have one. Sorry, but the pricing does not make ANY sense whatsoever, the 8-core is a MID RANGE product, in a world where it is NOT the fastest mid range product out there ! (Story is similar for 3600, 3600X, 3600XT) (Actually, story is even WORSE for 3900XT vs 3900X, where they added one single lousy 0.1 Ghz extra, or +2% perf only in single thread for +21% price . WTF AMD, really?) Why are people defending this ridiculous pricing, with even more ridiculous stories like "quietly ease bla bla into marketplace bs" I like AMD, I have 3 computers with ZEN CPUs in them, but I just can't accept this ridiculous pricing scheme ! --- Again, the current announced prices have no chance in hell of holding, especially considering that in the minds of the average consumer, 10600K and 10700K are still faster at gaming... This launch is NOT in a market void, they are competing with their own older brothers, as well as two-three different generations of Intel CPUs. --- Here's something else https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Computers-Accessories-Computer-CPU-Processors/zgbs/pc/229189 Top CPU sales on Amazon: #1 - 3700X #2 - 1600 #3 - 3900X #4 - 3600 (surprisingly, this one is behind 3700X) #5 - 3200G #6 - 2600 ... with some intel CPUs following 3800X is barely on #11, even after the massive price cut from launch @ 399 to current 329 . WHY ? Because 3700X also got much cheaper... There are some fools who pay more for that 100Mhz which almost never happens, but the large majority of the people aren't so easily fooled, thus 3700X being on top of the chart. 3800XT ? Heck, it won't even make it into the top at all at $399. Chop at least $50 of it and then MAYBE it will have a chance, just maybe.

Zen 3 is delayed, yes, but that doesn't make XT special in any way.
This has not been confirmed by AMD yet.... It's nothing but a rumor at this point. Digitimes is the only one that is actually reporting it and nobody has bothered to try to confirm it. Every other site is just quoting Digitimes and taking their claim as fact.

Most people claiming the price is too high would go bankrupt in a quarter if they would ever run a business. It bothers me because it's not like they were waiting for them to upgrade... Last year chip prices have come down, these new ones are premium chips (as the X variants were last year) so it's only normal AMD will try to get more money from who's willing to give them. It's not like Intel have released an amazing cheap line-up recently that is competing with AMD, oh that's right: AMD is still outselling them everywhere. Why would they make these cheap if they can make more money and apply it on R&D? Economy should be mandatory on high school.

All I know is I was compelled to buy a 3800X over the weekend. There's not really any bad options in this list of cpu's unless you really want to split hairs.

$400 USD for a 3800 XT? Not only are AMD turning Intel, it seems they think they are Intel. 🙄
The 3800X was released at $400 so it makes perfect sense. No, they are not turning Intel and this pricing is in line with what they have already done. What I really wonder is if these chips may have one CCX for all 8 cores and just how much better they may actually be.

For me this "new" parts should replace directly the older ones, basically offering a speed bump for the buyers. About the old parts, the 3700X is down to 315€ and the 3800X is down to 345€! Very tempting prices, specially the 3800X. The 10700K costs 430€...

While not terrible, not exactly exciting…. I was expecting something a little better on the price/performance ratio. Hopefully they aren't already sitting down and wait for the competition to catch up, I have great expectations for Zen 3.

Hey why stop at the 3700X? Why don't you say hey look the X and the XT are useless because I can get my hands on a 3700 non-X and OC them to the same frequency and call it a day. Look at me, I am so smart and anyone who has purchased a 3800X and people that will purchase the 3800XT are fools because I paid much less for the "Same" processor. If Amd and Intel listen to fools like you they would only have like 4 processors(Quad cores, 6 cores, 8 cores and 10 cores) on the mainstream market. Amd has truly binned the 3800X, and now even more the XT. I dare you to find an early sample of the 3700X that will match the 3800XT in OC test.

This pretty much shows how much are you talking out of your a$$ without knowing anything about AMD CPUs. Also, welcome to the forums. Did you make your account just to troll this topic?

You might want to check the market again... https://geizhals.eu/amd-ryzen-7-3700x-100-100000071box-a2064553.html That's 285-300 on the lowest couple of offers, not 315. Well, maybe it's 315 in your country, but that doesn't mean much or anything since many of those stores deliver free anywhere in Europe
