The 2700k with a 970 GTX was giving me 100+ FPS in PUBG, and I typically play CS:GO competitively and as such my CPU has been fine. But yes, I want 144 FPS on ultra on newer games coming out and am in the process of actually doing a new build. I bought the GPU first, and am still waiting on the 9900k to do the rest.
If you are into resource light games (typical competitive-something), You'll not need more than 6C/12T for very long time. Those games are not multithreaded. Save yourself $200 and upgrade CPU in few years when you actually start playing something well coded for more than 2C/4T chip. Because all those 9X00K will play same in those DoTA/PUBG/...

If I had money to waste id buy intel not because I think it will last me a long time and because the price isn’t insane, but because that epeen 5ghz nothing else. I personally do not have allegiance to a company that makes money off of me, nor do I care who buys what, but I have just never heard anyone say they buy intel because it’s future proof, it’s always because it’s the fastest cpu, period.
If I had money to waste I'd buy a 2990WX and max out the memory and storage on it 😉. The e-peen factor of 32 cores is hard to resist. As a former Intel customer, I have also never considered Intel more future proof. I have an old Athlon II system that is still kicking as well as a Core 2 Quad that still has life. Based on what I've seen and worked with, AMD CPUs last just as long as Intel CPUs - out of all the possible reasons to buy an Intel CPU, durability is not one of them.

turns out its hard to break what are essentially fancy synthetic rocks, who knew:D , price of the 9900k is underwhelming, it should really come with a liquid cooler at that price, but as is standard these days for intel , it wont even come with a crappy all aliminium stock heatsink.

Current exchange rates put the Newegg price of $580 @ £441 for the i9 9900K, and SCAN is selling in the UK @ £600 ($788), no prizes for guessing which country gets screwed the most again!

Hang on, If that's Australian Dollars then that's £430 / $567, so even CHEAPER than the UK/US 😱

I worked in a repair shop for 4 years and I haven't seen a CPU fail, ever, unless it was user error (putting it wrongfully in the socket, etc). AMD or Intel, CPU's are one of the most durable products in a PC.

I've never had a case fail, they are quite durable 🙂

The only one doing the screwing is your Government who slaps a large VAT on what you purchase even though you already paid tax on that income. I also wouldn't be surprised if there was a tariff on those goods.

Newegg Canada has the i9 9900K listed now for 670 plus tax. That is 750 fuckin bucks after tax. Outrageous does not even begin to describe this cost. https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117957
But it's 50% faster than a 2700X! A principled marketing company said so! 😛 $750 might seem like a lot but there are people who regularly spend tens of thousands of dollars a year on their luxury cars so it's actually very cheap! This CPU goes very well with a 2080 Ti, which is also very cheap compared to luxury cars. Just think like a rich person and you'll see how cheap it is! 😉

That price was for "out of stock" item (never had stock). A local shop is selling pre-orders for $859 AU (approx £459 / €526 / $607 US)
