Beelink GTR7 Pro Mini PC Series: AMD Ryzen 9 onboard

The market for mini PCs has developed greatly in recent years. One of the major players in this arena is Beelink, which has introduced its flagship product called GTR7 Pro, based on the AMD Ryzen 9 7940 HS. This CPU that was launched on 30th April 2023 (and is made in 4nm FinFET technology from TSMC) features eight powerful CPU cores (and sixteen threads) that can reach clock speeds of up to 5.2 GHz (base clock is 4 GHz). It has an L1 Cache of 512 KB, an L2 Cache of 8 MB, and an L3 Cache of 16 MB. As for this Chinese company, previously, we could check the following:

• SER5 Ultra (with Ryzen 7 5800H)
• SER6 Ultra (with Ryzen 7 6900H) (Recommended award)
• GTR6 Ultra (with Ryzen 9 6900HX) (Recommended award)

But coming back to the GTR7 Pro - it features 32 GB DDR5 RAM and 1 TB M.2 2280 storage. The GTR7 series offers two CPUs to choose from:

• AMD Ryzen 9 7840 HS (in GTR7 model)
• AMD Ryzen 9 7940 HS

It is possible to choose from four colors:

• Green
• Dark Blue
• Space Gray (which we got)
• Hermes Orange)

Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled. The CPU supports also:

• Windows 10 - 64-Bit Edition
• RHEL x86 64-Bit
• Ubuntu x86 64-Bit

One of the unique features of this Mini PC is its increased thermal design power (TDP). AMD Phoenix APU has a default TDP of 45W, so Beelink raised this to a maximum of 54W (as per AMD specs) and even overclocked it to 65W. DDR5-5600 memory with a default capacity of 32 GB should make this device enough for most users, even professionals. 

GTR7 Pro is small, W x L x H (16.9 cm x 12 cm x 5 cm), so hiding it behind the monitor/TV should be quite easy. The weight is 899 g, and the (magnetic) charger weighs an additional 278 g.  The charger has a magnetic connector, which improves the cable management (but on the other hand – we cannot use it for another device). There’s also a fingerprint reader, which enables better system security.

GTR7 Pro features two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet connectors (Intel I225-V), WIFI 6, Bluetooth 5.2 (both covered via Intel AX600), 2x USB4 ports (one with 40 Gbps, the second 10 Gbps), HDMI 2.1, and DisplayPort 1.4. Our kit is fitted with RAM (32 GB) and an SSD (1 TB) and is based on the AMD Radeon 780M RDNA3 integrated GPU with 768 FP32 Cores (12 CU RDNA2). The maximum GPU Clock is 2.8 GHz. The GTR7 Pro with 8 cores/16 threads AMD Ryzen 9 7940 HS should be enough for most activities on the MiniPCs. It’s quite an energy-friendly platform, as the CPU TDP is 65 W. The Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled, so that’s a great deal. We’re testing the unit as supplied by Beelink, an official distributor of this kit. 

AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS

The AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS is a 45-watt class CPU (but here it can reach up to 65 W of power consumption due to the overclocking), and that TDP is flexible these days (we’ll explain later), placed beneath the HX CPUs such as the Ryzen 9 7945HX in terms of hierarchy. Distinct variations exist in the technical specifications of these CPUs. Both versions utilize Zen4 cores; however, the HX variant incorporates a chiplet design (Dragon Range, 5 nm), which involves individual manufacture and subsequent assembly of the processor components. The HS chips are developed via a 4 nm process and include the latest iGPU Radeon 780M based on the RDNA3 architecture, integrated with AMD’s latest Radiance Display Engine. This engine extends hardware compatibility to DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1a. Furthermore, the iGPU is enhanced with AMD’s latest media acceleration functionalities, incorporating a Dual Media Accelerator. This accelerator includes two hardware accelerators, each equipped to handle encoding or decoding tasks, extending support for the AV1 format. The price is 869€ (you must pay 789€ for the GTR7 variant, with the AMD Ryzen 9 7840 HS). Let’s check the Beelink GTR7 Pro in practice.
