Final Words & Verdict

Several monitors with a 360Hz refresh rate have been introduced in the market, with the Asus ROG Swift PG259QN being the first to be released in September 2020. However, a new monitor with a higher resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 27" and a 360Hz refresh rate is now available, which requires a more powerful system and graphics card to fully utilize its capabilities. This new monitor was co-developed with NVIDIA and features a Native NVIDIA G-sync module to optimize its performance, providing a super-smooth VRR experience, variable overdrive, and super-low input lag. The NVIDIA G-SYNC processor ensures an excellent gaming experience with no tearing, stuttering, or input lag by synchronizing the refresh rate of the display with the GPU. This results in a smooth and tear-free gaming experience without the latency typically introduced by traditional Vsync. Moreover, the display integrates a dual-layer voltage driver that delivers a smoother and more consistent image quality. With this cutting-edge technology, gamers can expect a remarkable gaming experience that is free from distractions and optimized for seamless performance.

The Asus PG27AQN monitor is equipped with a variety of ports, including 1x DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC and 3x HDMI 2.0 ports. Additionally, the monitor stand is designed with a cable management channel to keep cables out of sight, resulting in a clean and organized workspace. The monitor also comes with a built-in 2x USB hub, making it simple to connect peripherals to a PC, and a headphone port for audio output.

In terms of visual performance, the Asus PG27AQN monitor boasts VESA DisplayHDR 600 certification, indicating the presence of local dimming, a wide color gamut of 98% DCI-P3, and 10-bit color depth, though the specs cannot be measured, it's pretty close. With a peak brightness of 600 nits for HDR and 400 nits for SDR, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and 178/178 viewing angles, the monitor offers outstanding image quality. The screen is factory calibrated with a dE <2, further ensuring accurate color reproduction. In addition to its impressive display features, the Asus PG27AQN monitor also includes AuraSync RGB backlighting, providing a customizable and dynamic aesthetic. The design is consistent with other ROG Swift monitors and the stand offers tilt, swivel, height, and rotation adjustments, allowing users to customize the monitor to their desired viewing position.

Concluding

The Asus ROG Swift PG27AQN is a gaming monitor designed to meet the demands of serious e-sport gamers who prioritize high-performance refreshes. The monitor is factory calibrated and boasts the fastest 1440p display, making it a must-have for gaming enthusiasts. However, some users may be disappointed with its appearance, though its exceptional build quality is notable. As a standout option in the gaming monitor market, the ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQN offers impressive specifications that cater to the needs of competitive gamers. It delivers top-notch gaming performance and display quality, making it an excellent choice for those who require a high-quality display for other purposes as well. One potential drawback is the lack of backlight strobing, which may be an issue for those who prefer CRT-like motion clarity. Nevertheless, at $1,050, the ASUS PG27AQN is reasonably priced for a monitor of its caliber. It has to be said that current street prices sit much higher, probably due to low volume availability.

The monitor's stand is sturdy and versatile, with up to 100mm of height adjustment, 90° tilt, +/- 25° swivel, -5°/20° tilt, and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility. It also has multiple connectivity options, including DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, three HDMI 2.0 ports (limited to 144Hz), a headphone jack, and a dual USB 3.0 hub. Additionally, the monitor's G-SYNC module comes equipped with a cooling fan that operates quietly in most situations.

Areas, where the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQN falls short, is its average HDR performance, despite its HDR 600 certification. Some users may find the limited local dimming insufficient, especially considering the monitor's price point. Also screen uniformity is borderline acceptable in our measurements. Despite that it is considered the among best 1440p monitor for e-sports, there is still room for improvement. However, for those seeking unparalleled motion clarity, the Asus ROG Swift PG27AQN is a groundbreaking option. Its 27-inch 1440p 360Hz screen and Ultrafast IPS display delivers excellent motion clarity at various refresh rates. A 240Hz alternative may offer far better value, however the PG27AQN is an ideal choice for gamers who prioritize exceptional motion performance.
