Here you can download Catzilla the 1.0 Final version of the benchmark. It’s being produced in collaboration with Polish post production company, Plastige, who worked on that Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition intro video. This benchmark is in beta phases. Catzilla is a cross-API benchmark designed for OpenGL 4.0 and DirectX 9 or 11, and the Windows platform (64-bit and 32-bit Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8).

Valve Steam Machines due for arrival in 2014

Valve Software spreads word that its Steam Machines will be launched in 2014. As previously reported, the company has partnered with numerous other hardware manufacturers to licence the Steam Machine branding and produce a range of hardware devices - but also plans to launch its own Steam Box device somewhat earlier. Before you get too excited, however: the official Valve Steam Box is to be a strictly limited affair. Ahead of the formal launch of Steam Machines in 2014, Valve has pledged to give 300 official Steam Boxes to Steam Users - completely free of charge.

It seems that photo's of the upcoming XFX Radeon R9 280X Double Dissipation graphics card have appeared on the web. Reportedly in a post on the leaking website the specs that go along with it make it look like an updated Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition (Tahiti XT) as it comes with 2048 stream processors, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPs, 3GB GDDR5 memory, and a 384-bit memory bus.

Sony announces new 4K projector

Sony's new VPL-VW1100ES projector, suitable for screen sizes up to 300 inches, boasts a dynamic contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Other features includes 2.1x motorised zoom, full HD 3D support and 2,000 ANSI-lumens of brightness. The price has not yet been announced but expect to pay around the $28,000 US mark for Sony's new flagship model.

Large Hadron Collider added to Google Street View

Following Google's visit to the LHC in the summer, the internals of the world's largest particle accelerator are now open for public exploration.

NVIDIA: New consoles will never match PC graphics

NVIDIA Senior Vice President of Content and Technology Tony Tamasi mentioned in an interview that game consoles leapfrogging PC graphic capabilities are definitely a thing of the past. Tamasi said Microsoft and Sony simply can't afford this: Talking about the current state of graphics and the shift in R&D budgets, device physics and power, since the PS3 and Xbox 360 came out, the Nvidia SVP said; “NVIDIA spends 1.5 billion US dollars per year on research and development in graphics, every year, and in the course of a console’s lifecycle we’ll spend over 10 billion dollars into graphics research. Sony and Microsoft simply can’t afford to spend that kind of money.”

We review the Asus Xonar U7. The U7 offers 24-bit/192KHz recording and playback with 114dB SNR, S/PDIF output, 7.1 channel analog output, dedicated stereo headphone output, a volume knob, and it's all powered of a USB 2.0 port. The headphone output comes with its own DAC and adjustable gain settings, making the U7 capable of driving just about any pair of headphones to ear-splitting levels. The U7 is a discreet audio card, in a nice little package, so it also supports Dolby HTv4, including surround sound encoding. And there's also a karaoke mode. High performance in a small package, but is it any good? The U7 is surprisingly good.

Epson Unveils PrecisionCore Technology

Epson has revealed a new core high-density print chip produced using MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) manufacturing, containing 1-micron thin piezo actuator elements capable of firing up to 50,000 drops of ink per second in volumes from 1.5 to 32.5 picoliters. The technology is scalable; as an example the Epson SurePress L-6034VW industrial label press contains 52,800 nozzles and can produce 15 meters of output per minute.

GTA V for PC Could Have Support For DX11 & 64 Bit Memory

It has been reported on the mighty interwebs that Reddit user Hal_Nein_Thousand got his hands on another part of code of the PS3 version of GTA V, in which it is hinted that the PC version may have support for DX11 and 64 Bit memory. Now the absolute first thing we noticed is the DX 11 tag in the code. This is unarguable, if the DX 11 Code is present then it makes sense that GTA V PC will almost certainly release to a DX 11 Based Port.

AMD will still need to make this official on its Hawaii GPU release event, but gossip right now dictates that the Radeon R9 290 series will be the only really new products in AMD's new graphics card lineup as the Radeon Rx 200 series likely is a respin product. The Radeon R9 280X would be an optimized Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition with maaybe a clockspeed bump. The R9 280X is to be released roughly mid-October, most of these cards will use custom designs.

DDR3 pricing hits two-year high

Bloomberg reported o that memory prices hit a two-year high as a result of the fire in SK Hynix' fab in Wuxi, China. Analysts expect chip prices will continue to rise throughout the fourth quarter or that there will be no drop until production capacity returns to normal. The price of the benchmark DDR3 2-gigabit dynamic random-access memory chip reached $2.27 yesterday, compared with $1.60 on Sept. 4, when a fire forced the closing of SK Hynix’s factory in Wuxi, according to DRAMeXchange, Asia’s largest market for the components. Icheon, South Korea-based SK Hynix expects to resume production on the fire-hit line next month.

Apple updates iMac range

Apple has today announced the new range of iMacs which now come with 8GB of memory and a 1TB hard drive as standard, configurable up to 32GB and 3TB respectively. The base level 21.5-inch iMac packs a 2.7 GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor and new Iris Pro integrated graphics, while the high-end model and both 27-inch models provide quad-core Intel Core i5 processors up to 3.4 GHz and NVIDIA GeForce 700 series graphics. The new iMacs are upgradeable to 3.5GHz Intel Core i7 processors and 4GB NVIDIA GTX 780M graphics solutions. Suggested retail price for the base 21.5-inch model comes in at $1,299 (US).
