Gigabyte to release X58-OC overclockers mobo

Mainboard 578 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Gigabyte is working on a new X58 motherboard totally pimped up and designed for overclocking, as their blog reported. The new color schema is quite wicked alright, anyway the mobo will be called the X58-OC and will come with four PCIe x16 slots and one PCI slot.

With the help of two SATA (?) power connectors you can direct extra voltage to the graphics cards and the mobo has two 8-pin ATX power headers as well.

The board comes with dual-BIOS and handy power/reset/cmos buttons. Hiding under the heatsink are new 50A rated driver MOS chips used to deliver up to 600A(1200W) load via 12 phases. Dual power design is still in place providing redundant phase power and great phase control.

For the non-overclockers, the board also comes with two USB 3.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, six SATA 300 and two SATA 600 ports.

Expect this product to be released in March right after CeBIT.

Mushkin says no to 25nm SSDs

Storage 785 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Here's a bold move, which I can appreciate for sure. Mushkin announced it will not switch its solid state disks from 34nm to 25nm NAND flash due to the reduced lifespan of the smaller NAND flash memory. The company says it will continue to stick with 34nm NAND flash memory until it's convinced of the effectiveness of 25nm NAND flash memory:

The Solid State Drive (SSD) market is one of the most exciting and fastest-growing segments in computer components today, and for good reason. SSDs offer a host of advantages over traditional platter-based Hard Disk Drives, with many of these advantages already known to seasoned computer enthusiasts.

Mushkin, Inc. has been very eager to release SSDs with the best specifications and quality control standards that exist. Our

Palit GeForce GTX 560 Ti Sonic review

Graphics Cards 1673 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Palit submitted their GeForce GTX 560 Ti Sonic, a product that comes with a nice factory overclock and a rather silent cooler. It comes factory clocked at 900 MHz on the primary GPU core and 4200 MHz on the memory at default.  All factors combined deliver a product onto the market that is quite interesting performance and features wise, a product that is noiseless and has a power consumption level we can all life with.

But hey now, have a quick peek at the Palit model and then let's head onwards into the review.

Corsair Gives 25nm SSDs A Suffix

Storage 785 Published by Hilbert Hagedoorn 0

Corsair shared more info its plans for the upcoming transition from 34nm to 25nm NAND flash memory on its solid state disks.

The 25nm NAND flash memory is cheaper to manufacture but the downside is that it's less durable and somewhat slower than the previous generation. The company says more over-provisioning will be needed to ensure reliability, and reports tests show a roughly 3-4 percent drop in performance. All of Corsair's new Force SSDs with 25nm NAND will get an "-A" suffix to make it easy to determine the difference with the 34nm disks.

Corsair, a worldwide designer and supplier of high-performance components to the PC gaming hardware market, today announced its plans for the upcoming transition from 34 nanometer to 25 nanometer flash chips used on its solid-state drives.
