Ubiquiti has introduced the UniFi Express router, a device that integrates a Wi-Fi 6 access point and a UniFi Network controller, priced at roughly 149 euros. This router supports gigabit speeds and is designed to serve as a comprehensive UniFi cloud gateway. The UniFi Express router draws comparisons to Ubiquiti's UXG Lite gateway but sets itself apart with its integrated functionality. It includes a Wi-Fi 6 access point with 2x2 MU-MIMO technology, capable of covering up to 140m².
This integration eliminates the need for a separate UniFi Cloud Key or hosting the UniFi Network application for network management, a requirement for the UXG Lite. Featuring an in-built UniFi Network controller, the UniFi Express can manage up to five additional UniFi devices, such as switches and access points. For users looking to expand their UniFi network or incorporate Ubiquiti security cameras via UniFi Protect, a separate Cloud Key is still necessary.
The router not only offers network-wide control but also functions independently as an access point. It supports the interconnection of multiple UniFi Express units for extended Wi-Fi coverage, facilitating both wired and wireless uplinks. Ubiquiti has designed the router to maintain 1Gbit/s routing performance, even when activating features like Traffic and Device Identification.
