Seagate Technology Holdings plc, renowned in data storage technology and solutions, has unveiled its Seagate Exos X24 hard drives. Equipped with 10 disks, each with a capacity of 2.4 TB, the Exos X24 stands as Seagate's most densely packed hard drive. It provides a cost-effective solution for hyperscale clients and enterprises operating scale-out data centers.

Utilizing conventional magnetic recording (CMR), the 24 TB Exos X24 boasts high capacity, robust performance, and enterprise-grade dependability. Additionally, Seagate provides an option of a shingled magnetic recording (SMR) Exos X24 configuration, which can reach a capacity of up to 28 TB, albeit for a limited range of cloud customers. The Exos X24 is tailored for hyperscale storage needs, emphasizing rack-space efficiency and potent performance. This helium-filled 3.5-inch 7200 RPM nearline drive supports both SATA and SAS interfaces. It features an enhanced caching system, yielding performance metrics up to threefold compared to solutions solely relying on either read or write caching. Other notable attributes of the Exos X24 include a sustained data rate (SDR) of up to 285 MB/s, power efficiency with stable IOPS/Watt ratios, and a 2.5M-hour meantime between failures (MTBF) rating. For data security, it incorporates Seagate Secure encryption mechanisms such as self-encrypting drive (SED), SED-FIPS, and instant secure erase (ISE). All these features are backed by a 5-year limited warranty.

Currently, Seagate's Exos X24 qualification drives have begun distribution to select customers, with mass production set for channel distribution come December. Furthermore, Seagate plans to capitalize on this technology for its future 30 TB+ hard drives employing Heat-Assisted Magnetic Recording (HAMR) technology. Production for these is slated to commence in early 2024.
