Samsung has commenced the sale of its 990 Pro retail SSD in the 4TB variant, following the introduction of its 1TB and 2TB models. This release, which comes a year after the aforementioned models, is a response to user feedback. The 990 Pro 4TB SSD is available for purchase on Amazon and directly from Samsung, priced at $345.

It features a graphene heat spreader designed for laptop applications. Additionally, there is a $355 variant equipped with an aluminum heatsink, aimed at ensuring stable performance during intensive computational tasks. Both versions are compatible with desktops, laptops, and Sony's PlayStation 5.

In terms of performance, the 990 Pro 4TB SSD offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,450 MB/s and 6,900 MB/s, respectively. Regarding random performance, the drive aligns with those using a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface, achieving 1,400,000 IOPS for reads and 1,550,000 IOPS for writes. However, due to its PCIe 4.0 x4 interface design, this SSD may not be the ideal choice for devices powered by AMD's Ryzen 7000-series or Intel's 12th and 13th Gen Core processors. Nonetheless, it remains a valuable component for many computers equipped with PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. Furthermore, given the decreasing costs associated with 3D TLC NAND storage, the 4TB SSD presents an attractive upgrade option. Samsung provides a five-year limited warranty for this SSD, covering up to 2400 terabytes written (TBW).
