The Core i7-14790F, part of Intel's Raptor Lake Refresh series, appears to be positioned just above the i7-14700F in the product lineup. However, a closer examination of its specifications reveals some unexpected differences. As reported by Tom's Hardware, the "Black Edition" has fewer cores but a larger cache than the Core i7-14700F, contradicting the initial assumption that it would be a higher-spec model. Pricing data from JD.com indicates that the Core i7-14790K is available for 2909 RMB, roughly equivalent to $410 USD. This is in contrast to the Core i7-14700F, which is priced slightly higher and offers a 16-core configuration with 8 performance cores, 12 efficiency cores, and 28 threads. The Core i7-14790F, more accessible to the Chinese market, features a total of 16 cores as well, but with a different composition: 8 performance cores, 8 efficiency cores, and 24 threads.
Both the Core i7-14790F and the Core i7-14700F share similar clock speeds, but the "Black Edition" stands out with its 36 MB Intel Smart Cache. It does, however, have a slightly smaller L2 cache of 24 MB, in comparison to the 28 MB L2 cache found in the Core i7-14700F.
