We've tested a number of Innogrit based NVMe drivers in the past, and they certainly are impressive. InnoGrit, a company under Yingren Technology, has recently started large-scale production of a new piece of technology called the YRS820 controller. This is a big step in the world of PCIe 5.0 technology. What makes the YRS820 particularly interesting is that it uses a type of computer instructions known as RISC-V, which is open for anyone to use and modify, unlike most other instruction sets that are proprietary. The launch of the YRS820 is a strategic move by InnoGrit to make its mark not just in China, but also in Western countries. This controller is the successor to an earlier, more advanced model called the YRS900.

The technical specs of the YRS820 are pretty impressive. It can connect via four PCIe 5.0 channels and manage eight channels of NAND flash memory, which is a type of storage commonly used in many electronic devices due to its speed and reliability. This controller is designed to work with the latest NVMe 2.0 protocol, supports both 3D TLC and QLC NAND flash types, and can handle data transfer rates up to 2667MT/s. It's capable of powering solid-state drives (SSDs) up to 8TB in size, targeting the premium consumer segment, especially those interested in AI-enhanced personal computers.

When it comes to performance, the YRS820 doesn't disappoint. It can reach sequential read speeds of up to 14GB/s and write speeds of up to 12GB/s. In terms of random reads and writes, it can achieve up to 2000K and 1500K IOPs respectively, putting it in direct competition with other major brands in the field like Phison and Silicon Motion.

One of the standout features of the YRS820 is its ability to enhance gaming performance. It does this through a special AI-powered design that minimizes delays and boosts overall speed. It's also compatible with DirectStorage, a technology that enhances gaming experiences by improving load times and rendering. Beyond gaming, the controller is optimized for AI applications, promising high levels of stability, consistency, and security.

Security is another area where the YRS820 shines. It includes a specialized design feature that focuses on keeping data safe and secure, which is increasingly important as we store more sensitive information digitally.
