It's a big EvanGENlion whoops. An examination of the ROG Maximus Z790 motherboard, a special edition by Asus themed around the "Evangelion" anime series, has revealed a typographical error.  Update: ASUS has responded with a solve. Read below the fold.

This error is specifically located on the I/O cover of the motherboard, where "Evangelion" is mistakenly spelled as "Evangenlion". Notably, this misprint is on a non-LED illuminated component, which complicates potential corrections for end-users. The only immediate remedy suggested has been the manual alteration using a black marker.

The issue came to light during an unboxing video of the Hero Eva-02 Edition motherboard, which is part of a themed series that includes various PC components such as graphics cards, power supplies, and cases, along with peripherals like keyboards and headsets. Among these, only the motherboard has been reported to feature the spelling mistake.

The Z790 motherboard variant in question carries a premium, with prices commencing at around 775 euros, representing a higher investment compared to other models within the same product line. Despite the increased cost and the collector's value of this edition, the error undermines the product's attention to detail.

At this point, Asus has not issued an official statement regarding the error nor detailed any plans for issuing a corrected version of the Eva-02 Edition motherboard.

Update 15/11: Asus has issued a formal statement on its website, acknowledging and apologizing for any confusion or inconvenience resulting from a printing error. The company wishes to clarify that this error is purely cosmetic and has no impact on the functionality or performance of the motherboard. In response to this situation, Asus is implementing a replacement program to assist affected users. Customers are encouraged to get in touch with the company's customer service department to request a "corrected decorative part" to replace the incorrectly printed component. Additionally, as a gesture of goodwill, Asus is extending the warranty of the affected motherboards by an extra year.
