AMD offered its apologies for including a desktop link towards Quake Champions in its latest 17.4.4 Crimson ReLive driver update. A lot of end-users apparently got upset over over an icon with link that should not have been there.

The man behind the driver team and software development from AMD is Terry Makedon (you might know his handle CatalystMaker) and on Twitter he made a public apology:

So basically what happened was that an icon appeared on the desktop in the form of a Quake Champions icon. However the link in that desktop icon ended up at a Bit.ly-page, and the page it lands on is a tracker. That tracker collects statistics and currently over 75K people already clicked on the icon it seems.

While Terry Makedon apologized, he did not mention as to what and how this icon with tracker link ended up in a driver. But in another tweet he also states that they did not make any money by adding the link.

Ah well a small goof-up, it's an icon and a link, moving on.
