XFX Speedster MERC 308 Radeon RX 6600 XT Black edition
We test the XFX Speedster MERC 308 Radeon RX 6600 XT Black edition. AMD unveiled its next member of its RDNA 2-based graphics family, their Navi23-based graphics card(s)the 6600 XT. Historically, the 6600 series was positioned between entry-level and mainstream, generally in the 150–200 USD range. You now need to pay 379 USD for a graphics card aimed at the Full HD range. The cards, which are thus positioned as a 1920x1080 offering, and will include a GPU based on NAVI23.
Radeon RX 6600 XT
The Navi 23 GPU-based graphics cards are manufactured on a 7nm process and have a maximum of 8 GB of gddr6 memory and are connected through a rather restricted 128-bit memory interface. 8 GB GDDR6 RAM will be used, buffered by a 32 MB Infinity Cache. The series card is projected to perform at the performance marker of the RX 5700 XT and GTX 1080 Ti, making it an excellent card at 1080p or good card at 1440p. The RX 6600 XT features 2048 stream processors, whereas the unknown RX 6600 is expected to include 1792 of them. Numerous firms have stated their own variants and setups of the card. We've mapped the major specs below to help you see what to expect.
The "Navi 23 XT" chip is not new; it is already in use as the Radeon RX 6600M graphics solution for notebooks, which was introduced with the Radeon RX 6800M and 6700M graphics solutions for laptops a few weeks ago. The majority of cards will use a dual-slot dual-fan cooler; they will include a single 8-pin PCI-Express graphics connection with a maximum power consumption of 160 watts. The Radeon RX 6600 XT features 2048 rather than 2560 stream processors or shader units and a memory interface decreased from 192 to 128 bits. AMD will initially offer the 6600 XT cards, followed by the 6600. The Radeon RX 6600 XT is to cost a rather extravagant 379 USD as a base reference product. Thus, you can expect board partner cards with custom designs and cooling to sit well above the 400 USD marker. We can already share that the pricing is the biggest culprit of this product series.
XFX Speedster MERC 308 Radeon RX 6600 XT
In this review, we'll zoom in at the XFX Speedster MERC 308 Radeon RX 6600 XT. The company is putting three models actually, all with the same clock frequencies, just different coolers, and designs. XFX is introducing three new models: the MERC 308 Black, the QICK 308 Black, and the SWFT 210 Core. The MERC 308 Black and the QICK 308 Black are very identical cards. Its sole distinguishing feature is that it comes equipped with all of the aesthetic features, such as LEDs and silver trim. The QICK is a simple black fan shroud that has been stripped of all of its glitz and glam. The rest of the components, including the fans, heatsink, PCB, and overclock, are the same. The SWFT 210 Core is a simple two-fan model with no overclocking capabilities and no extras. We test the MERC 308, XFX fabbed a rather mythical Speedster series graphics cards ready, locked, and BIG for something in this mainstream category. Nope, won't make any THICC puns here, but oops I just did, The Speedster Merc in a BLACK edition was submitted, and while in the more mainstream/high-end segment, this product looks like it is the most premium you'll ever have seen. It is based on a triple-fan cooler and a 2.7-slot design with a single 8-pin PCIe power connector, the card is bound to please and tease many.
THICC branding was succeeded by the 'Speedster MERC series.' The modified RX 6600 XT graphics card has an outspoken black and white and design with a backplate. In the I/O area, the card includes three DisplayPort 1.4 ports, one HDMI 2.1. Clock frequencies are listed as being at a 2188 MHz Base, 2428 MHz Game, 2607 MHz Boost. The Boost frequency however isn't a fixed setting anymore these days, the power limiter is the dominating factor. Depending on the power allowance frequencies have different values. The 8GB GDDR6 memory clocks in at 2000 MHz (16 Gbps effective). The card has a length of close to 27cm and has been fitted with dual-BIOS (however both BIOS modes are the same, so you can use it as a failsave). We have a lot to talk about, have a peek at what is reviewed today. On the next two pages some in-house photos, after which we then head onwards into the review.
