Wide Quad HD then ...

Starting at 2560x1440 the still remain strong. However look at that RX 470 and GTX 1060 go. Very nice as in the 200~275 USD marker you can game at Wide Quad HD in the Ultra quality settings. For the more hardcore PC gamers a preferred resolution is WQHD which is short for Wide Quad HD, a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Let's just call this the more more sexy resolution opposed to the ever so popular Full HD.

Ultra HD, UHD or 4K, this resolution refers to approximately 4000 horizontal pixels. Ultra HD resolution has four times the number of pixels of a typical 1920x1080 resolution. This resolution and Ultra quality settings typically require more memory, hence the cards with more then 4 GB often jump ahead. Proper framerates you will achieve with a GeForce GTX 1070. But as we see so often, the Hawaii GPUs aka Radeon R9 390 series certainly still are going strong and Fury is dealing good as well.

For Ultra HD the memory utilization is very close to 4GB. That is based on a measurement in the first scene segment of the game. You always need to add a little reserve as typically VRAM will either fill up the framebuffer completely (easy to measure) or load dynamically (more difficult as we cannot play the entire game and all its scenes). As we'll show you on the last page, this game is dynamically loading and caching. I have no doubt that in certain segments of the game that 4GB will be passed, hence I in Ultra HD you are better of with at least a 4GB or higher VRAM card. I am not saying 4GB can't cope with Ultra HD, but once your frames starts swapping back and forth in the framebuffer you will see an effect in frametimes and likely stuttering. I am merely making a recommendation here based on the fact that the memory is running out close to 4GB already (which we'll show you later on in the article).
