Gaming

The Kraken v3 pro is rather remarkable, providing detailed low-latency audio for gaming and film. To evaluate the headset, we run it through our standard test suite of games:

Battlefield V

The Kraken V3 Pro delivers a very satisfying gaming experience in Battlefield V, and I have no doubts that it is a significant step forward from any other gaming headset you could possibly purchase. Yes, there is still a distinct absence of a satisfying mid-range, which leaves several aspects of the game (where I am accustomed to hearing powerful instrumentals, for example) feeling a little hollow. With a customized EQ profile, on the other hand, you'll be able to put a smile on your face almost immediately. Having said that, headset bass means that the parts of the game that should 'strike' you hard (e.g. nearby explosions, flying bullets, etc.) still do so, and do so quite successfully thanks to the haptic feedback. And trust me, that really makes a difference.

Metro: Exodus

Metro Exodus is the type of game that draws you in; it has a fantastic atmosphere, respectable graphics, and (this is why we chose it) a beautiful sound design. It's all good in terms of immersing you in the game's ambient sound envelope; you feel as if you're inside the universe. The bass is spot-on, evoking the thundering sound of a movie house with the haptic rumble on your ears. Metro's dialogue and environment noises came across clearly. However, in the rear portion of the acoustic environment, you will miss out on genuine environmental noises.

Project CARS

Rally and racing games contain almost everything you could ever want in a game. Especially realistic are the sounds produced by PCars, particularly the engine and gear noise, which are the heart and soul of the vehicle. The headset works absolutely flawlessly with PCars. Aside from missing an apex or an occasional gear shift, you will not be missing anything at all. It's time to bring up the topic of surround sound once more. Additionally, when that motor growls at you in this manner, the headset produces some decent bass, albeit with a little EQ tweak. The car makes the haptic feedback rumble a lot so you probably want to set the haptic setting to low.

Microphone

The microphone was put through its paces using a variety of applications, including Skype and some co-op play, with the sound samples being played back with Audacity as part of our protocol. The detachable microphone provides omnidirectional sound pickup with a remarkable degree of clarity for a headset microphone, with audio quality that is practically on par with the greatest mics for streaming, it is truly that impressive. When speaking, it comes through cleanly and undistorted, independent of pitch, with little background fuzz or compression.

The headset offers a solid and clear microphone, plenty of gain, excellent clarity, very low noise and hum, as well as excellent noise (echo) cancellation, among other characteristics. It does, however, a VERY good job, and I was appropriately impressed with how well it performed. Thunder, steps, ambient sound, and communication are all crystal clear while the game is being played. When used in conjunction with the detachable microphone, the whole effect is really good.
