Radeon HD 5770

Okay, this is the part where we move away from all the technical stuff and move on to the product photo-shoot followed by initial tests on heat, power consumption and noise levels. First up the photo-shoot.

We'll start off with the HIS Radeon HD 5770, they always try to do something nice with the package they deliver. In most scenarios they always include a little something extra. Included in the box you will find:

  • One fine Radeon HD 5770
  • DVI to VGA Dongle x 1
  • Crossfire bridge x 1
  • Manual
  • Driver CD
  • Multi-purpose magnetic screwdriver with LED and dust wiper
  • Colin McRae Dirt 2 download coupon for the full DX11 game

Not bad Sir, not bad at all. The HIS 5770 cards, this bundle actually, is selling for 159 USD, including the full game Colin McRae Dirt 2.

So as you can see, here we have the Radeon HD 5770 as supplied by HIS. Quite a charming fellah to look at really. It's encased completely and has that ridged cooling solution. The card is not at all lengthy measuring 21,5 CM / 8.5 in

Do bare in mind that the power connector does lead out from the rear as well, needing extra space.

When we flip the card around we see there's no backplate installed. The Radeon HD 5000 series will obviously also be CrossfireX compatible, you could hook up one or even two more of these cards and go really nuts. typically we however do recommend you to not use more than two GPUs, as drivers wise you'll quickly run into problems, let alone performance scaling becomes very inefficient.

To your top right you can see the two Crossfire connectors. Also Kudos' to ATI for finally moving away from the RED PCB, this just looks so much better (!)

Connectivity. I think it is safe to say that we can leave the explanation of single and dual-link DVI behind us. It is incredible to see how much connectivity this card can deal with. With the standard reference Radeon HD 5700 series cards we already have four digital connectors at our disposal, we spot two DVI, an HDMI and a DisplayPort connector.

If you like to go 3x 2560x1600 or 4x 1920x1080 ? Dude, not an issue. It's that kind of flexibility I like very much, something the competition does not offer.

Here we have flipped the card around once more and look at the top side. Let's zoom in a little on the memory. H5G indicates gDDR5 memory. The T2C indicates 2.5 GHz = 5.0 GHz effective.
