A closer look at the build (X399)
The Threadripper platform can take high-frequency DDR4 memory, 3200 MHz will not be an issue. That's quad channel, AMD supplied the kits with 4 x 8GB G-Skill 3200 14-14-14-34 Memory model number F4-3200C14D-16GTZR. You enable DOCP (ASUS) or well .. XMP in the BIOS and boot into 3200 MHz CL14 instantly.
See that lower heatsink just above the chipset heatsink? That is the new VRM heatsink that ASUS will offer for the new Zenith (and will be applied as default in the stores from now on). Basically, this segment was not cooled enough for a 32-core processor. For those with a Zenith and a need to upgrade the proc, the kit will be available separately.
That's it, for now, you guys, I hope you enjoyed this little preview slash unboxing article. Threadripper 2 will become available this August 13th, and the performance embargoes will be lifted, see you there and then!
