Any GeForce RTX 4090 has been fitted with 24 Gigabytes of GDDR6X memory; it runs at 21 Gbps (effective datarate), and that's a lot of memory bandwidth for a gaming graphics card alright. We'll show you the specification details on the next pages. The IO panel shows three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1 connector that will bring 8K 60 Hz HDR to a single HDMI cable.

When you open the package, you are welcomed by a thank-you message from MSI, as well as a layer of foam beneath. You will discover a bonus MSI SUPRIM-themed gaming mousepad with a fibre surface. Lift it up to reveal the card, with coolant tubing running into a layer below. This layer houses the 240 mm radiator and two Gentle Typhoon 120 mm fans. Everything on a hardware level has been improved with the SUPRIM X. Thickened copper (2oz) traces inside the PCB, brushed aluminum plating with precision-cut edges on the cooler's exterior. The dual BIOS is configured to be Silent out of the box; for comfort,  the GAMING BIOS mode can be enabled for a 'cooler' running product. As explained on the previous page, the difference isn't performance, it's a different fan profile that offers your preference on temperature or silent acoustics.

Other than the compulsory NVIDIA-designed adaptor that converts four 8-pin PCIe power connectors into a 12+4 pin 12VHPWR, there are few accessories.

The grey-and-black style should be recognizable  and MSI has done well to keep it looking stylish considering the sheer size. The MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X has a TDP of up to 475~500 watts when you slide open the power limiter. LCS offers however a much nicer 2-slot design a highly sophisticated cooling system. RGB has been updated, it no longer defaults towards rainbow, but now it's subtly animating white. You can sync it to whatever your preference is with Mystic light software. The MSI SUPRIM Liquid X RTX 4090 employs an AIO liquid cooler for the GPU and memory, while a single fan cools the remainder of the card. Coolant tubing connects the pump block to a 240 mm radiator, which is outfitted with a pair of high-quality Gentle Typhoon 120 mm fans.

The GPU boost frequency has been increased to at least 2,625 MHz in gaming, but you'll likely see it hovering in a 2800 MHz domain. The TDP of the RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X rises to 425~450 watts while remaining within the parameters of the 12VHWPR, which will be utilized on this model instead of three eight-pin connections. RGB lighting, which is greatly enhanced over the firm's earlier Gaming X models, contributes to the aesthetics. Colors are more brilliant, with seamless transitions and fewer prominent hot spots. A lighting zones allow for complete customization: the chevrons between the three fans, the GeForce logo across the top edge, and the logo on the back.

This appears to be a radiator made of aluminium. Rubberized frame mounts absorb vibrations on the fans. Of course, with a card of this magnitude, cooling is critical, and yeah LCS will suffice alright. Temperatures are unlikely to be an issue. Thanks to the aluminium backplate and metal anti-bending plate, there's a minimal hint of sag despite the card weighing a little under 2.4kg including the radiator.

A sleek three-dimensional backplate with a brushed-aluminum finish is included. The benefit of such cooling is that MSI can let frequencies run wild. With three DisplayPort 1.4 and one HDMI 2.1 port the card manages well; albeit DP 2.0 would have been nice.  The new 12VHWPR is used. However, MSI included an adapter cable.
