Battlefield 2 - EA

The award-winning Battlefield franchise invades the high tech frontlines of modern warfare in the new sequel, Battlefield 2. The game brings the intensity and excitement of Battlefield 1942 into the modern era with enhanced team play and the latest, most technologically advanced vehicles and weapons systems available to man.

Image Quality setting:

  • 4x Anti Aliasing
  • 16x anisotropic filtering

I just love what this game can do in terms of gameplay and image quality. We had to use FRAPS to measure the performance and by use of the game command prompt remove a nasty framerate cap. The results do not lie.  Small note: the game by itself does not support these high resolutions, but simply make a little .bat file and insert the following, save this .bat file in the BF3 game directory and startup at the resolution of your choice:

bf2 +menu 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600 +fullscreen 1

Would you believe that you are again looking at 4xAA and 16xAF here @ 2560x1600 where we still have a friggin' 89 FPS framerate with the 8800 GT OC.

Gaming: World in Conflict

Impressive gameplay and graphics that will make you go into shock and awe. Yes, World in Conflict has been released. This game offers a serious graphical challenge to you guys, the gamers. Wars often end in either victory, loss or compromise.

Vivendi Universal recently was kind enough to send us a copy a couple of days prior to the release of the game. You are an avid Guru3D reader so that means you also know we'll do things a bit differently. It's not moving very fast, but slowly we see more and more DirectX 10 titles becoming available on the market.

World in Conflict is a late Cold War real-time strategy game with a strong focus on unit tactics, action, team play, and destruction. Players take on a specific role commanding air, armor, infantry, and support units to form a combined arms force against the enemy. By controlling key strategic points on the map, you sway the battle in your favor. There is no resource-gathering, so every second not spent fighting the enemy over a piece of land is a second wasted.

Image Quality setting:

  • 0x Anti Aliasing
  • 16x anisotropic filtering

What you are observing above are the results done with the medium (DX9) setting. Damn good performance. Again notice that for whatever reason the OC version was slightly faster than a GTX.

Image Quality setting:

  • 4x Anti Aliasing
  • 16x anisotropic filtering

Above absolute hardcore pain, sweat and tears, the DX10 code path at very high settings which include 4xAA/16xAF and well - everything that can be set to enable the best possible image quality (IQ). Any card should cave in here. Note how important it is to have 512MB of framebuffer as minimum. It's possible to play at the insane settings up-to roughly 1280x1024.

We are measuring this mode for future products. When time passes graphics adapters will scale better.
