The AP

The EnGenius ECW536 features a clean appearance. Its square white housing is roughly 5 cm thick and measures 23cm on each side. The design is non-obtrusive, so you can mount it pretty well in any household. The muted matte surface is easy to maintain and draws less notice. The only branding appears to be a little grey EnGenius logo in the middle.

Near the top is an LED indicator bar with a multicolour LED light similar to the ones on a router. The colours represents stats and wifi band usage indicates they are operational.

You can disable these LEDs through software btw, making the unit even more stealthy as mostly these units are mounted on the ceiling. A back for that is delivered with the package.

You'll see that there are no ports or connectors visible. These are positioned on the rear of the casing, close to the wall or ceiling. A Kensington lock is present so you can secure the unit tightly with little or less risk of being stolen.

The back of the enclosure features a cutout for an Ethernet connectors and a DC power input. Additionally, there is a reset button, the type that requires a paperclip to press. BTW a power adapter (rated 12V/3A) is not included you'll need to purchase one or connect it through PoE compatible switch.

The router Ethernet connectors have been updated towards a 10 GigE jack. That's an impressive amount of LAN throughput, but then again this is a very impressive access point. Mind you that you're looking at 23x23 cm which is sizable for an AP.

The included mounting bracket is a grey panel with screw slots on the back of the main housing. It is simple to set up. Screws and drywall anchors are included in the kit. The product weighs just over 800 grams.

EnGenius provides a two-year manufacturer's guarantee on the access point. If something breaks too soon, you will get a replacement or a refund. However, it will include outside usage because this access point is not weatherproof.
