Rest assured, these cables and connectors provide ample support, enabling the PSU to deliver its full power effortlessly. However, having a greater distance between the peripheral connectors would be recommended, addressing potential space constraints.

At the front side, we spot a small air vent; it allows optimal airflow running through the PSU, cooling down its components and keeping them nicely efficient. Also, obviously, we spot the power connector and the on/off switch. You will notice that 1200 Watts of power requires some real estate; the PSU is just over 18cm in length and thus with the cable routing on the side will not be a product that will fit appropriately in many chassis.

The PSU has a semi-passive design of up to 50% load. All of the power supplies in this series have the necessary protection functions, even in extreme conditions.

Below is a list of the included protections:

  • OCP: Over Current Protection. This function will latch the power supply off if any given rail is overloaded beyond a safe level.
  • OVP: Over Voltage Protection. This function will latch the power supply off if voltages exceed specifications.
  • UVP: Under Voltage Protection. This function will latch the power supply off if voltages drop below specification.
  • SCP: Short Circuit Protection. This function will latch the power supply off in the event of a short.
  • OTP: Over Temperature Protection. In the event that temperatures exceed a specified value, the power supply will latch off.
  • OPP: Over Power Protection. If the total output power of the power supply exceeds a safe level, the power supply will latch off.

The RMx Shift models are produced by Channel Well Technology (CWT), the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for all RMx units. These models maintain Corsair's standard of quality while featuring a distinct layout due to modifications in the printed circuit board (PCB) configuration for the side-mounted modular panel. Corsair incorporates high-quality components in the RMx Shift series, such as power factor correction (PFC) and LLC resonant controllers, 5V standby circuit, and PWM controllers for the DC-DC converters.

While several components, such as APFC and resonant controllers, DC-DC converters, 5VSB circuit, supervisor IC, fan controller, and fan, are consistent across all Shift models, some components vary to optimize performance. These include bridge rectifiers, FETs, NTC thermistors, bulk caps, filtering caps on the secondary side, and the cooling fan. Notably, Corsair has replaced the ML fan found in the RMx units with the NR140P FDB fan provided by Hong Hua, resulting in improved cooling capabilities.
