As always we begin with packaging. It's a simple yet informative thing to show as when you purchase a chassis, you honestly do not want any defects and scratches on it. The 100R is packaged in cardboard. There are two models actually, a standard and a Silent version with sound isolation padding. We test the Silent edition.
Once you take the unit out of the cardboard box you'll notice two layers of polystyrene protecting the unit, which on its end is covered in a plastic bag. Packaging was done carefully and the chances of damage and risk are minimal thanks to that.
So there it is. Looks like a run of the mill chassis very much, though distinctly different from the 200R,3 00R and 500R SKUs. The design is kept simple, no bright lights and screaming logos -- subtlety in full effect. The dark black design is easy on the eyes. Less is better, and that works out well here. The chassis is made out of a Steel structure with molded ABS plastic accent pieces. As you can see at the front side, it supports (x2) 5.25", and internally (x4) 3.5"/2.5" tool-free drive bays.
When we flip around the unit we can see the side panel and back a little better. The panel can be removed with two thumbscrews. There are meshes for airflow at the front edge, inside two cooling fans are mounted. The size of the chassis is by the way is 471mm x 200mm x 430mm (H x W x L). The 100R has five fan mounting points (if I counted right) for enough cooling Front: (x2) 120/140mm Top: (x2) 120mm Rear: (x1) 120mm. The backside reveals that it has 7 card slots, no grommet holes here.
