Battlefield 2142

Never mis-underestimate the power of overwhelming force.

Battlefield 2142 is an older game, but one that prominently featured Creatives EAX Advanced HD 5.0 and a massive 128-voice, Ultra-Hi, mode. I used the single-player mode with a 16 player Fall of Berlin map, honestly to minimize variability, and a bare minimum of six FRAPS runs each. Please note that the X-Meridian did not work properly with the Ultra-Hi mode. The sound crackled quite a bit, and the benchmarks were not usable.

Both X-Fi Prelude and X-Fi XtremeMusic cards happily did the ultra 128 voice mode. The X-Meridian is about as fast in 64-voice mode as the X-Fi's are in the 128-voice mode. What was even more impressive was that I actually heard some EAX effects, occlusions and multi-environments (OK, that was in EAX 4), and had a suspension of disbelief!

Since I had not played this game for quite some time, I stayed in the game after the benchmark was completed and just enjoyed the immersion with the Prelude.
