In this segment of the benchmarks, we'll walk through compression software applications. We'll use 7-ZIP and look at both compression and decompression performance. This is a relatively new addition to our benchmark suite, more processors will be added over time. 7-Zip is a multi-threading archiver.
What you'll see often in the benchmarks is that not all software likes many cores, the 7-zip compression is such an example. Next to that, the low base-clock of, say, the 2990WX will bring that performance down compared to the faster base clocked 2950X. Once heavy threading kicks in for decompression, behold the beast.
