4700x with 10c/20t? It should beat even 10900k st 300$. What you gonna do next Intel?

5 units active per CCD.

I guess this would be the 4800X As there is not a lot different between 3700X and 3800X right now. However good times ahead!

We all need that 8 core ONE ccx ....

I wonder if there’s also a 16 core 4900X and 20 core 4950X on it’s way. If so, we’re in for a serious treat. 😀

so a wild guess here ,should we expect a 20 core 40 thread monster from amd on a am4 socket>? if this...then wow
data/avatar/default/avatar25.webp
If this is true i will guess it will look like that 46xx - 6/12 - 32MB L3 47xx - 8/16 - 32MB L3 48xx - 10/20- 64MB L3 4900 - 12/24- 64MB L3 4950 - 16/32- 64MB L3 For all tiers AMD can give two parts lower clocked without X and higher clocked with X I will not expect more than 16/32 for AM4 platform, but 20/40 on AM5 is pasibilty.

It very likely means that 3 cores out of 8 per CCD are disabled. (CCX=CCD with Zen3 unless something changed.)

Zen 3 does this, hence AMD can cut them as sees fit make 10 core also.

Each chiplet is 8 cores. To make 20 core would need 3 chiplets. If so then why not go all way to 24 cores if they can fit them.

They have to be even so it'll only be 5+5 not 4+6 for example for a 10 core part

I'm hoping this makes their 8 core parts drop a tier so the 3600x would be 8 core instead of 6 right now they have always had cpus that make no sense, there is no reason to buy the 1700x or 1800 because it was the same as the 1700, same goes for 3700x vs the 3800x. I'm hoping they can segment a bit more like this so the x parts mean access to the high core rather than just a meaningless 200mhz speed bump, this also allows more product stack 4500 = 4 4500x = 6 4600 = 6 4600x = 8 4700 = 8 4700x = 10 4800 = 10 4800x = 12 4900 = 12 4900x = 16 4950 = 16

This is not known to be technical limitation. It is economical stupidity to use 4+6 configuration... that may as well be only reason behind. It is economically better to use dies with 6 OK cores to form 6+6 or just 6 core CPUs. And then use 5+5 for 10 cores, and 4+4 for 8 cores if desired instead of just one 8-core die. (But we know how that behaves from 2+2 vs 4 already.)

Can't wait for it to arrive and the fact that we still don't have an announcement and release date makes it even harder...

It would be amazing to have first ryzen 5 with an 8c/16t meaning i5 will have to fallow. We all win as users. Still, its not gonna happen until zen4 and ddr5.

Sometime I wonder why they make it so confusing with numbering scheme... It could be so easy with something like this: 4040 - Quad-Core 4060 - Hexa-Core 4080 - Octa-Core 4100 - Deca-Core ( 10 ) 4120 - Dodeca-Core ( 12 ) 4160 - Hexadeca-core ( 16 ) Which leaves room to add versions with more clocks in a refresh. 4045 - Higher boosting 4c 4085 - Higher boosting 8c etc. Anyone could understand that the number in the middle is EXACTLY number of cores. Threadrippers 4240, 4320, 4640, 4960, assuming one is even possible to make with 96 cores...

The same twitter man said Zen 3 coming in October, too. That seems early? Not that I'm complaining at all.

Zen3, rdna2. Im sure amd gonna hide their gpus behind cpus and release at the same time.

Everything is set for October. We have AGESA for Zen 3 for bios, and new Linux kernel opensource drivers for RDNA2 and CDNA this week that will go to 5.10 and 5.9 kernels. Also latest MESA is updated to use those drivers.

Depends, if the linux driver signatures are correct, they cannot release GPUs without the CPUs. It would be pointless to present technologies that will come "with the CPU" some time in few months time. The whole ecosystem going to arrive together including Infinity Fabric 2 linking GPU to CPU, etc. (AMD has dropped this in the Linux kernel drivers for weeks now) AMD pushed the barriers building ecosystems now my friend. The others are 30y behind.

If that does end up being a CPU I think most of us will be on board from a gaming performance perspective.
