That probably kills any lingering hope of Cascade Lake X supporting ECC memory then. I admit I'm not particularly informed about the what the LGA2066 Xeon Ws bring over the X-series LGA2066 cpus aside from that, any hot takes as googling didn't help much? :P

Just speculation on my part but Intel may be trying to avoid any direct comparison to AMDs offerings. Given the 3900X that might be considered a weak argument but it's unlikely to be yields (it's still a 14++ nm design) and Intel's own argument of simplifying the product stack make no sense at all.

Even if it was for comparisons or yields still is strange the 16 core is missing from there there is a 18core sku and a 14 one so if there are some chips not qualifying for 18 core there must be some that are fine as 16 cores .... Still i find it rather strange.
