There were a lot of fallacies about Windows Vista but the stupid amount of space it took for a default installation wasn't one. My installation of Vista Ultimate was over 40GB, without anything extra, that's retarded. For comparison, my current installation of Windows 10 with whatever extra I may have shoved in there is 19.1GB.
Vista has a lot of programs installed in comparison to 10 which has them stripped out, which you can then install via the "Store".....

I went from Win 2000 to Vista and skipped XP entirely. Had no issues with Vista because I built a nice PC from scratch. Never understood all the **** talking. When I upgraded to 7 a few years ago, I didn't see any difference in performance at all. But, I'm a casual users. *shrug*

Not sure if this was staged or not, but this is the Mojave Experiment

I skipped Vista for personal use, only had it installed on a HDD for testing purposes. Grant you lot of the issues with Vista were fixed with SP1.

This just in, the 4 Windows Vista users are in a rage due to the discontinuation of support. 1 Vista user has even threatened Microsoft by claiming "If you end support for Vista, I will move to Windows ME instead." The other 3 while not too thrilled with the news went on to ask "What's a Windows?"

Thanks, that made me chuckle :funny: Main problem for Vista users, in the early days especially, was the crap hardware it was paired with i.e. A laptop with a Celeron single core processor, 512MB RAM and a 5400rpm hard drive with a small cache. May as well have used it to wedge open a shed door. I always said, to have a reasonable Vista system you needed 3 things - a fast dual core processor at least, 3GB+ RAM and a 7200rpm hard drive with a good cache. If you lacked any one of them Vista would make you pay dearly, 2 or more and you may as well install XP instead.

Vista was the first time Microsoft fully introduced Superfetch, prefetch, and new memory managers. So of course it was going to use a good amount of memory, but if you have the memory then this works for you. The memory is ready to be deployed properly. I had Vista since the start, never had an issue with it. But I had a pretty decent enough rig for Vista to run effectively. Now you could disable all of these in Vista, and it did give a performance boost for low memory systems. But then at that point, what's the point in Vista?

I started using Vista just one month or so before SP2 was released and never had any issues. Compared to when XP lost support, Vista could still play modern games due to supporting DX11.0 Time for Microsoft to get some positive PR now by letting Vista users get a free Win10 update

Yes, but how many gigs do they add up to? Even 1? Certainly won't make up the difference between 40 and 19.
