Had some weird issues with this update. It's the only thing that changed in the last day. Upon restart, the windows 10 search box was the size of the entire screen, the windows action centre flyout was took up half the screen. Another reboot later and they are back to normal. Did SFC scan and it found nothing so not sure what happened there seems fine now though.

From what i've been told, this was a side effect of a fix to an issue where the dpi/color wasn't fitting the current users preference and needed a reboot to finalize it after updating (or logoff/in cycle)

Any news on the reappearing desktop icons after you deleted them? I am still getting this issue and is there any known fix? cheers.

i'd assume this is because the sideloaded Edge installer (assuming you're talking edge) acts like the setup has been run as usual, rather than delete you could hide the icon, this should persist across icon overwrites.

Wow, this was the absolutely quickest ever 'major-number' Win10 update I've ever experienced, it's almost like it did nothing. lol

Because it kinda did nothing, just enabled some features that you already had.

It pretty much did nothing. 21H1 is mostly just security and quality fixes. From what I know it only turned on 3 new features. The second major update in the year is when new features are introduced. In the new update cycle they reversed the rollout from past (spring is minor update and fall update brings new features, whereas with 20Hx and previous, it was the other way around).

Both of these will do the full and lengthy in place update or clean install instead of just triggering the quickie Enablement Package. Does anyone have a way to just trick Windows Update into flagging the easy update path?

To trigger the update, read and follow the directions on this web page: https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/179561-kb5000736-featured-update-windows-10-version-21h1-enablement-package.html another page with direct download URLs as well: https://www.ghacks.net/2021/05/17/when-is-windows-10-version-21h1-going-to-be-released/ As always, have a backup just in case something doesn't like the update. Note: Your system must have all prerequisites installed for the update to succeed. You could always wait until it's available in your Widows update notification or perform the long install using the first method I posted.

Oh well... After installing 21H1, Windows Update stuck on 'Please Wait...' (waited more than 30 mins 3 times...) Couple restarts, sfc /scannow , Troubleshooting > windows update, safe mode ... nothing worked. Later i found this command online > DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth it is fixed instantly after operation. (Same problem at 20H2) Peace.

Thanks for the info, but sadly it didn't solve the problem for me. Dism went through fine told me it's all fixed. After that it was still on please wait, restarted - still going. Cold boot - still going..... kinda sad.

As you stated the update got stuck. Rebooted and still stuck. So let it do its thing while I went to sleep for the night. Woke up and all was fine. No clue what it was doing but it straightened itself out. No idea how long it stayed "stuck."

I recklessly and bravely volunteer to be a guinea pig, yet again, for Microsoft's newest inevitable blunder. I'll report which folders it deletes this time when I find out. But this truly is a tiny update, it was pretty much instant, and not a full OS installation like past ones were.
