Only laptop? I've never had it with desktop. On both my PC's changing default apps is without issues.

That's weird, I've got my old laptop on Windows 10 Creators Edition, and I just checked - I've still got Google Chrome as default app.
EDIT: Oh, I misread the article, it's for the Windows 10 S version of the OS. I don't have that version, that's why then.

He is talking of windows 10 S, not normal windows 10

I don't see this being installed on any new Normal laptops like the business grade and consumer grade but the laptop tablet hybrids such as the standard MS surfaces or any other standard Windows tablet. Or if MS releases their own version of the Chrome book then I can see this being used on that.

It will probably be available here in EU though since they went to court for just this thing.

Chromebooks also have single browser, as far as I know.
Without any legislative troubles.
I guess MS found a similar way for Win 10S.

Eventually it will include more versions. Our browsing information is becoming way to valuable to these companies.

Just a side note, devices that launch with Windows 10 S this year can be upgraded to Windows 10 home for free for a whole year, after that the upgrade cost is $49.

I see this just as a round about way of MS boosting their numbers for their own services to help with dwindling numbers and justifying its existance. "We have blah blah amount of users now using Edge, our best browser to date!", same PR for the store. 🙂

Anyone else not realize this is pretty much the same thing as Windows 7 Starter Edition? Did MS not realize how much of a failure that was (despite it actually being less restricting)? At least this time around, Windows 10 S doesn't seem to limit your ability to change the background wallpaper...
Interesting - correct me if I'm wrong, but assuming you can get your hands on a Windows 10 S ISO, this could effectively get you a stripped-down version of Home Edition for half the price. Seems like a win-win to me (I don't like half the junk Windows 10 comes with).

If they are putting it as the default OS on their devices, I don't see a problem (I would never buy that kind of device, but that's me). You buy a phone with certain platform and you are bound to (mostly) defaults of the manufacturer. Google search on Android, Bing on Windows mobile OS etc.
