basically you have to have win 10 updates on
Nope Incorrect You do not and never have. It might be advisable to have the updates occasionally but mostly it's not necessary AT all.

Either disable the Windows update service, or Start > Run: gpedit.msc Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Windows update http://i.imgur.com/s99XHRA.png
I have win10 pro and there exists no such setting. But I already have the services off, is that why it's not showing in gpedit? I wouldn't have thought so. Never mind, it's in Windows components, not system

I sure do. You don't know how to control it? It's not rocket science. It's as simple as turning off two services. Windows Update and BITS. Some people... :bang:
They turn themselves back on. I disabled them only to find my system installing updates. So that trick does not work. We need to be able to control Windows Updates like in previous OS's. Failed updates like this is the reason! The latest update batch has caused havoc with Flash Apps. I run a site with a flash based IRC chat client. After this Tuesday none of my chatters that use Win10 can get on. I instructed them to do a system restore which worked, temporarily. After a few hours MS pushed the same updates and bam they cannot get in the chat!
