I heard about the new web browser form trending topics section on Faccebook. It seems like that MS is going back to their 1999 IE roots when IE was a light browser. I used IE very little when I was doing school related work. But I haven't used IE religiously since IE6. IE is just a pile of crap. No extension support. Yes I know that there is a version of adblock for IE. No way of having a youtube downloader with out installing separate software. Chrome to me is the best out of the box browser because it has flash built in and has html 5 video enabled. Yeah I know that IE has flash built in but not sure that it has HTML 5 video support or not.
Try all browsers with touch screen on Windows and come back to tell us which is lightning fast. Mouse scrolling and static viewing on "common" setup hides the issues, but scrolling by fingers and pinch to zoom really bring the performance issues on FF and Chrome to the light. Not to mention the hundreds of times "fixed" memory leaks in FF.
On my Windows 8.1 pro tablet I didn't have any performance issues when using chrome using finger zooming gestures.

I am forced to use IE8 at work due to some compatibility issues with certain web apps but we also use Chrome so that's all I'm used to. I despise IE8.

Nah...

And yet you comment IE12 based on experiences with IE8... Which brings me to this: "On my Windows 8.1 pro tablet I didn't have any performance issues when using chrome using finger zooming gestures." Maybe they have fixed it lately 🙂 And in the end: People who had bad experiences with older IE versions tend to be biased against it.

with the capabilities of modern PC's, Laptop's, and even high end tablets - i don't see why any of the performance arguments matter any more. if you like a browser stick with it, there will always be someone telling you its crap - and likewise someone will always be telling them their choice is crap too. at the end of the day, they're just internet browsers - who cares!?

That was someone else's quote you used with the gestures. All I was simply saying is I've never used IE past version 8. If this new version is good, I'll use it. If not, then back to chrome

Take the Bing out, IE is full of BS.

I'm primarily a Chrome user (90%), secondarily an IE11 user(10%), and I've never been a FF fan. Ever since Chrome came out, I've loved the user friendliness of it. Simple things, like dragging and dropping an image file into a new tab, something you still can't do with IE. Although, you can now drag and drop links into new tabs (finally!) Chrome's basic tab functionality is what keeps me on the Google team. Microsoft doesn't offer anything that Google doesn't. The only time I ever use IE is when a certain website isn't compatible with Chrome (eg. my work intranet through my VPN.) Yes, I experience the occasional Chrome crash, but I've never ran a perfect browser in my 20 years of computer usage. That's not to say I don't also experience glitches while using IE. Considering how much more usage I get out of Chrome versus IE, I expect more crashes. One of the other things Chrome offers that IE doesn't, or at least didn't used to, were extensions. I use probably a dozen different extensions through out the year. Fantasy football, fantasy baseball, screen capture and editing, etc. These may be features that IE offers now, but Microsoft is at best playing catch up in the extensions category. All in all, it's a web browser, hardly something worth argue over. IE was great, but when Google came along with Chrome and its features and ease of use they stole me away. Microsoft is more than welcome to try pulling me away from Chrome, but until then... I'm happy where I'm at.

IE was great
It wasn't. It actually got alot better in the past few years. It's time for a better interface though. I use chrome but read my gmail through Outlook 2013 and never login to my Google Account on any website unless really needed. If needed I'll logout as soon as it's no longer needed. Personally I just "want to browse and search the web" without bollox with a decent interface.

I only ever use IE its the most secure browser out there and nothing anyone says is going to change that FACT.
IE is in fact, the LEAST secure browser.... It's better than it has been in previous years, but it still trails behind Chrome and FF in security.

IE11 its already good enough for me, it only needs a night/reading/dark mode whatever, like it does on WP, hell the entire OS needs a dark mode lol, but if this new version its just a way to get rid of the bad reputation and add niceties like addons, why the hell not? and I keep liking the halo references, I think Microsoft should think of its products as a whole, a single tree with lots of fruits

I think that comes down to it being the most targeted browser though? Most people who use a pc wont know of different browsers etc, theres still alot of old gen users out there that dont really know pc and they're the ones that have something worry about when using IE. The rest of us though, we know where to stay away from and what have,, so its not really a problem.

Tell that to a cross site attack script, maybe such a script will believe your story.....

Completely wrong. That has never been the case since IE9.

Since they said that IE would also be in Windows 10, I'll probably stick with that. This new one seems like it's more targeted for the "modern" UI and mobile platforms.

There is a reason why large multinational companies still use IE8 or IE9 🙂 I work for 2 companies and both use these 2 versions, which I personally dislike. Several crashes during work sessions, performance issues etc. So I use IE only for business and for all personal stuff - Chrome all the way 🙂

I have to agree. Repairing computers for years, and if it is based on software side repairing IE is usually the door for all malware. It's slow, it's buggy how could anyone use it. I've tried all popular browsers, ff and chrome are on top. I also block IE from all access to users (permission based) and all access to internet (firewall based). Users are a lot happier without IE. It affects all versions of IE. I don't know what kind of safety, usability, interface friendliness most users are talking here. Of course ff with its memory leaks and chrome with its flaws aren't perfect either, but they are way up ahead of IE.

It's not just the browsers, but the plugin exploits. Java especially. The first thing I do when I clean up a machine for someone is throw an ad blocker on, and that takes care of most those fake download links they click.
