Do they update drivers with OS updates? What you have to push in update to cause such a mess.

... and another windows update that breaks things to a level where it might brick your machine (at least until you find a workaround or can roll back). Seems to be the rule by now...

Is there ever a changelog available? not about cortana or timeboard updates but actual low level things they changed?

I just rolled back, geforce experience kept telling me to update to the same drive I had installed, games often failed to launch and skype for desktop could no longer use my mic!

the Mic not working is a feature(if you want to call it that),now you have to enable it in Microphone security settings if you want it to work.

Nope. Updates do not "brick a machine". Are you new to PCs? This sort of misinformation is either pure ignorance, or misplaced exaggeration. Doesn't happen.

Uhhh....what? Not true. What OS are you using? Mine never stopped working, never asked and no security setting regarding microphone

How can something like this even happen, I mean surely SSD/HDD drives operate to certain standards and communicate with the rest of the PC in the same standard ways, so this seems strange to me that a Windows Update can cause this problem to happen. Also, what on earth would need to be changed in this Windows Update that would mean breaking compatibility with a specific drive, makes no sense.

That should be for the app store apps which I wasn't using. The browser version would work 😏 I can easily hold off updating for a year 🙂

Bricking might be the wrong word, bur breaking stuff is happening regularly these days. Wasn't always like that, was it? Or feel free to inform me from the unbelievably great collection of your memoriese of PCs and windows, since you have clearly been fed PC wisdom with the silver spoon in your crib. Please elaborate profundly, since that's what you're hinting at here. But thanks to make me aware that bricking is the wrong term, provoking you to ride in on your shiney armored knight steed of self righteousness. edit: you know what @Irenicus , never mind. I checked your last 50 or so posts over the last weeks, you anyways pop in 90% of the time to crap on somebody else's post and never answer somebody standing up to you in the first place. Also, you hardly ever try to help with any issues fellow gurus have, although you have "20 years of experience in tweaking and building rigs". Welcome to my ignore list, enjoy the stay, you've got life long accomodation.

They could at least post the SSD's they know for sure are affected, then update the list as they do further testing. I have a system with 4 Intel SSD's in RAID0 running Windows 1803 and it's fine, but I just bought a brand new Intel 545s and was about to to put 1803 on it - I want to know if it is affected.

I am almost sure your RAID set is recognized by itself. I mean instead of "booting from Intel SSD with ID 0" your system sees "booting from RAID set X", the logic behind the set is defined by the controller and therefore the controller has to deal with the "Intel issue", not Windows itself. That is only my guess, but it could explain why you are not affected by the issue.

I disagree with you: An "update" (which you did not define precisely) COULD break a machine. Are you new to PCs? Does "firmware update" or "BIOS update" ring any bell? So please behave yourself. We are all people and we all have rights. Respect them as you would like others to respect yours. It is THAT easy.

Not only intel SSDs, I'm having also issues with my system 2600k+samsung evo 950 m.2 through pcie. Basically it keeps telling me that I need to reboot to update, but when I do so the update sort of crash and the pc continues with the boot sequence.

I have Intel 330 180GB as my main windows installation partition and no issues

Seems to not just be intel SSD's that are having issues, when I did the update I got the good old "invalid boot media" error on my Crucial M550, nothing I did managed to repair it either tried all the usual things I do to repair windows, nothing worked, couldn't even do a windows repair or repair the MBR or anything else on the drive, windows refused to even do a fresh install on it until I deleted all partitions and started fresh with the drive, after doing the fresh install the update went ahead, though when it did the first restart for the update it didn't boot into windows and I had to power the pc off and on again before it did, after that though I haven't gotten any more boot issues and everything seems to be fine now.

You can't "brick" a PC and even more on Windows with automatic rollback after some crashy update... BTW it happen too with samsung 840 pro (if i remember correctely the ref) instant crash and reboot looping.
