The issue with this is that we are already running out of PCIe lanes as it is with Z97 boards having to offer 'either or' options when it comes to features such as using M.2.

they might want to consider 'internal usb3.1'
More simple cable, power and data across one cable, and just by removing in from the pc case/laptop, it instantly becomes a portable drive.

USB 3.1 is also heavy on the CPU, while SATA Express is not. This effectively makes USB 3.1's latency higher than the SATA Express spec. Overall i believe they chose the right interface. Really close though. 🙂
