Intel's data-center revenue has increased almost 20% year to year. Not sure if that can be considered 'bleeding money'. Currently AMD has 4.5% of the data center market so with a competitive chip, even a slower one... they're pretty much guaranteed to make gains on Intel. IIRC, AMD had 18% of this market back with the Opteron CPU. They got a long way to go to get to that number.
As for the topic at hand, i think it's idiotic to charge for another license if the cpu cores are above 32. Hopefully people take their business and give it to some other company who isn't so greedy.
