It's silly even to think that HL 3 will NOT be released. HL launched Valve into what it is now The only problem is that they waited so long and whatever they release (eventually) will not be up to expectations/hype

It's probably Portal 3. I don't think a new HL is coming.

Interesting, now the cynic in me is thinking that someone didn't quite make as a much money from their Winter Sale this year as they projected. The cynic in me would say that the community that used to hold them in such high regard has gotten tired and bored with the repeated stream of nonsense and rubbish that the company has been pushing out over the last few years (Greenlight, Vive, Steam OS, Steambox, Paid mods.) The cynic in me sees this as nothing other than a pathetic attempt to revive the communities interest and love for a company that purely through their own actions has fallen from the good graces of the community that used to love them so much. On the other hand ignoring the cynic, well who gives a f*ck what game Valve is working on, every 6 months or so some random bullsj*t filters through from some source or another that Valve is working on something. If their recent history of work is anything to go by it is going to be a). Buggy as all f*ck (CS GO) b). An utterclusterf*ck that has nothing but their wallet in mind (Greenlight and paid mods) c). Pointless and done better by someone else (Steambox / SteamOS, Vive) d). another rumour that produces not a thing or who knows maybe I am wrong mayve they will release the next HL / Portal game (I hope it's a Portal game) and it will be amazing everything the community wants, it will cost a single price, will work, have no stupid paid for loot crate or nonsense random luck win if you pay enough BS and it will work on current systems without having to buy in to Steam OS or Vive.... lol yeah I had to stop I forgot this was Valve we were talking about.

I don't think they need to create a HL3. Instead, they should just release a more modernized version of all HL games and combine them into one. Tweak parts of the story here and there that people either didn't like or were too slow, tweak the gameplay where it'd end up feeling dated, and I think it'd be a great game. It'd be cool if you could beat this game and then have the option play the original series "un-tampered with", but again, still as one continuous game. For me personally, I don't like it when franchises continue the same story over the course of several generations of hardware. It's great when you're living them all in the moment when they're released but it kind of kills the experience when you're trying to play them all again sequentially. Starcraft is another good example of this (but, at least SC2 told you enough about what happened in the first game to clue you in to the current situation). Anyway, funny interview.
