I love it that they didn't make a space or dragon battle sequence or something similar. That clip was great. They are also giving out grants to people wanting to use their engine for something cool.

It's another mountain clip, though...that's getting lame. Even Bilbo should have had his fair share by now... (lol...didn't know there's a Hobbit based Thief in the Dark tech demo for Oculus Rift when I posted this)

SSR is good for consoles when they don't have the power for real-time reflections but there should always be an option on PC for the latter, I guess UE only uses SSR now? It's really distracting how he is reflecting in the water right into the background rather than realistically only in the water beneath him!

Assuming this is all rendered live, I don't think people are really appreciating how amazing this is. Rendering something like this used to take weeks, and now its happening in REALTIME. Let's not forget that.

Indeed.. I think we're all so used to watching trailers and renders that can take time to produce.. for something of this quality to be put out by a gpu, that's pretty remarkable.

IT has to be asked how well does this demo run on card that isnt gona cost 1k+?? I still remember them say the only possible on titan z comment about cloth physics.

Well considering the new UT maps that look about just as good run my 980GTX @ QHD @ ~120fps, it's probably going to run pretty good.

Curious to see that as well. But still, very impressive to see this being rendered in real-time. We're really close to having cinema level graphics, and that stuff could days or weeks to render. I still think real world implementation of this will take at least 5 more years.

Cinema level CGI movies yes, we are long way off from photo realistic anything that some companies like say "photo realistic" seeing when those company say that it general not even close.

I look at the landscape, the PhysX, the texture detail in the fauna and I think 'wow that looks amazing.' Then I look at the kid and realize Unreal Engine still sucks at drawing realistic hair. *Sigh* So close devs, so close.

Not impressed really. LOD Distance is very low on this demo and I can see it changing. I am unimpressed because of this. I really thought they would take care of this by now. If this is the way games are going I won't even play them anymore. GIVE US SETTINGS FOR NO LOD CHANGES!! So annoying.

Very low? The goddamn map was 10 x 10 kilometers. I'd say the LOD popping was really minimal considering that.

Annnnddd back in the real world, it's very impressive but then all of the Nvidia/UE demos were. It's one thing showing a scripted cutscene (albeit a great looking one) and having a game of the same visual fidelity running with AI's, action, sound etc.

That doesn't mean a thing. I notice LOD pop in all over each scene. Period. You're blind if you cant see it.

yeah the hair is really bad.. I also expected proper hair, but I think its just the look they wanted to use. e.g. Samaritan has proper hair, now 4years old tech demo.. [youtube]KzjsTt_DzCw[/youtube]
