I believe it's free for non commercial users, but has the monthly charge and (I think) a one time charge for any game commercially released. Well UE3 licensing changed during the course of it's development. At the start it was extremely expensive. I think Bioware paid ~$2M for it for Mass Effect iirc I remember threads about it on the Epic developer forums. But eventually they changed it to a free for non-commercial use but $99 and have to pay 25% for all revenue above $5k. Then it turned to 25% on revenue above $50K. For UE4 it's $19.99 a month per user and 5% on all revenue. In terms of cost/ease of use it's probably the best option atm. You get full access to the source, which you don't with Cry Engine, UE4 is also significantly easier to develop on -- at least in my opinion. Between me and a friend we were able to model a character in maya, rig it using Epic's toolkit and import and getting it all working in UE4 (including input, animation blending, physics, everything) in 3 days without having any experience in the engine at all. The new scripting system that replaces kismet is awesome. I was building automatic opening doors, cameras that track player entities, bunch of things, all in an hour.

Well I mean Hilbert added the UE4 part. The original youtube link just says Gamescom 2014 Show Reel – Powered by Unreal Engine. Nothing about UE4. Although some of the titles are UE4. But it's hardly false advertising by Epic.

19 USD per month. You can cancel and continue using the engine if you want. You just need to re-sub if you want to upgrade to a newer build of the engine. The current version is 4.4.0.

I'm kinda not impressed by this demo reel, could well have been UE3 engine. Not that is shouldn't be released, because why not if it has some improvements, but nothing special imo

It's a demo reel of games built on the Unreal Engine, a lot of them were UE3. Hilbert is the one who put UE4 in the thread title.

It's actually for education use. I'm building a new Win 8.1 x64 image for our ICT rooms and have installed UE3 @ 1.8GB as that seems to be free to use unless you sell your work, but nobody will be making anything to sell! I think we'd need a site licence for UE4 UDK if it was going to be used in a classroom. If the head of ICT can blow part of his budget on the latest Adobe Creative Cloud, a month sub to get UE4 shouldn't break the bank!

Anyone know what that spaceship game was? I've been waiting for a game to live up to Star Wars: TIE Fighter. 🙂 I have yet to play a space game I enjoyed that much. Edit: NVM lol, saw the title at the bottom.
