True, it might be easier than last gen but it would still surprise me to see emulators anytime soon. As for this article, while it does say MS has some advantages I can't help thinking that AMD short changed MS. I can't find anything saying how much the PS4 deal was, but was the Xbox deal not worth $3 billion? Due to their financial issues it would surprise me if Sony spent more, but the Xbox specs just seem very underwhelming for what they have spent.

Sorry but a card that is between 7870 and 7850 is faster and if the games will be taking advantage of all of those 8 cores then I doubt that that pc is better.
You can't just go by that. The CPU's inside the next gen consoles are NOT desktop chips, they are basically netbook/tablet chips. They are pretty weak in comparison to desktop CPU's even from AMD's side let alone Intel's chips. The GPU is another matter, you really think that they can fit a 7850/7870 GPU onto the same die as the 8 Core CPU and not run into heat issues inside those tiny boxes? The overall system performance is what is measured with consoles, so with the PS4 for example the whole system is measured at 1.8TFlops that is including the CPU, GPU, RAM etc working together. The desktop GPU's we have for example completely out perform that number on their own. For example my 7970 at stock speeds is around 4.0TFlops. The chips inside the next gen consoles are being compared to their bigger brothers in the desktop world which is a totally different ball game, the chips in the consoles are extremely weak, low powered, and optimized to run in those small boxes and not generate that much heat or require that much power. They are striped down very basically. You really think that Microsoft or Sony could slap in a TRUE 7850/7870 chip and charge £300-£400 for a system that comes with everything else, a free game maybe, a controller, a year free subscription maybe, the materials for the box it self, the motherboard to fit it all, the ram chips, the packaging, the warranty on top, and ship it to you for that price???? REALLY? Sure games will be optimized very well for these machines but still, they are pretty weak and with developers popping out and saying that are already having to make cut backs in terms of graphics, frame rates, resolutions, is not a good thing at all (BF4 running at 720p to maintain 60fps... not good at all!).

Dont matter to me I will buy ps4 and as long as i get true 1080p or true 720p with atlest AA and games run a minimum of 30fps stable with no tearing 60 fps preferred I am happy, Seeing as 1080p when your like 6+ feet away from HDTV is not you wont see jaggies as obvious if you where on Monitor that is 1080p and your less then foot away from it. Only reason I rarely play my ps3 is cause its not true 720p half the time let alone 1080p so jaggies are completely obvious. As far as MS is concerned I will never buy any piece of hardware MS had designed or made.

Was playing uncharted 2 last night and my eyes where about to bleed. Had to stop and turn on my living room pc and play some Tomb Raider at true 1080p on high settings and FXAA to make them feel better. lol (Computers have made me such a graphics whore)

So true, we use to graphics not looking like crap, mine while consoles games, say there nothing wrong with the consoles games. So people know better other just dont want to admit it other just are oblivious

I was refering to claim about the GTX 560 being better than ps4 graphic chip (and the video chip wont be on the same die). And yes a console can manage the heat! If a laptop can handle the heat in a 2 to 3 cm vertical space than a console can it better as it has more room inside!

alot laptops suffer from throttling due to heat not dissipating fast enough so i dont know what you talking about.

Yeah but said laptops are running a smaller heatsink setup than the consoles will. Have you ever seen the heatsink that the original PS3 had it was quite impressive. The majority of the heat these consoles will produce is the GPU I don't think they will have a big heat problem.

Yes i have I was also amazed my Phat ps3 lasted 6+ years, With little to no Thermal paste, cause when it died And i took it appart to try and fix it, there was no thermal paste on anything . 😱 yet I went threw 4 360 that all RROD death in years time, and it was use way less then my PS3. Hence i shall never buy MS hardware ever again. Before I never bought xbox I had issues with there Mouse/KB constantly breaking in a less then years time. They kept replace it for free was only reason i stayed but that RROD sealed MS fate as far as i go Last i checked the GPU on both the new consoles are built into the cpu die so, heat gona be just as much as an issue they just need to worry about the ram and cpu die now. Besides they both had beeft HS on them and all know they suffer from overheating issues. I could be wrong though personal i just dont care long as its try 1080p or 720p with aa

Only the most poorly designed laptop will do that, majority don't

1152 shaders is between the 7850 and 7870 alright... for the PS4. The Xbone has 768 shaders, the ROPs and TUs scale accordingly as well.

I never had a single problem with my 360 in the 5 years i had it, but Alan Wake was the only MS exclusive i really played on it, so it never really got much sustained use. No way the Xbox will have the same problems this time, it cost MS far too much. If anything the PS4 is the one to watch for hardware failures this time round, the fact it's more powerful than the Xbox yet a good bit smaller concerns me.

Yikes no wonder Microsoft raised the cpu speed slightly. If I were to buy a console it would be the ps4. I doubt a majority of people would know the specs of either
data/avatar/default/avatar21.webp
Im choosing PS4 not because of the performance but I bet that there will be way more and better exclusives on it just like it was on PS3
data/avatar/default/avatar17.webp
I understand that the memory reads of the PS4 are much faster than those of the XBox One because of the faster GDDR5 memory. But a sudden change of having a 50 percent faster PS4 ALU is suspect. If that was the case then AMD would certainly release new versions of all its CPUs/APUs based on such an ALU without hesitation. ALU operations are one of the most common operations and having such an ALU would leave Intel in the dust.

need to remember that this is the Japanese we're talking about here, king of the small package - big boom.. Aka the Poke'ball.
https://forums.guru3d.com/data/avatars/m/206/206288.jpg
That means nothing to me, and these days i don't instantly go to Japanese companies like i may of done 5-10 years ago. I'm just not a fan of the small size, it might look better but if it's hot and noisy then it's risky, and not ideal for me as i'm a late night gamer.

I have played many PC games at highest settings and still think U2's graphics are pretty good. There are a few parts here and there but overall I think it looks great. God of War 3 does too
